Which is cheaper: Paying monthly Health Insurance Premiums or paying the Government Fine
For a single person I read the fine is $95 next year for singles who do not get Health Insurance. Wouldn't that Fine be a lot cheaper than paying Health Insurance Premiums each month?

$95 is way cheaper than health insurance premiums.

Like about $10,000 a year cheaper.

The fine is cheaper by far, but beware, if you go that route you do not have any HC coverage.

If you currently have insurance and use it regularly, I would keep it. If you currently have no insurance and like that arrangement, then pay the fine.

According to one paragraph in the bill, the IRS has limited enforcement tools to collect, they can send letters and/or refuse you your refund. They cannot levy liens, seize property, and there is no criminal or civil actions allowed

What is the "cheapest" Health Plan for a single 64 year old woman on a tiny income? That is one the Government will okay.

nrg says hell yea!!! skeptically as I haven't read the massive thing. I still think institutionalized medicine is prone to bureaucracy that will allow only the private corporate sector to expand our knowledge base. perhaps this could be offset by programs to push R.D in the advanced medicine science. Remember we have long since unlocked the D.N.A. code..........

If you purchase so called "health insurance" from the government does that cover dental care, eye exam and glasses? If it dosen't you have to realize that you would have to pay the cost of these expenses too.
I can't afford it with my measly pay. I can't afford to go to the dentist or get new glasses . Will I end up in jail?

Re: Which is cheaper: Paying monthly Health Insurance Premiums or paying the Government Fine
yeah it would be cheeper to pay the fine but what about if something happens and you to be admitted to a hospital.

On Feb 1st i was to have a simple procedure at a hospital, it didn't go as planned and i ended up having three operations within 8 days and spent 2 weeks in the hosptial and a further 2 weeks having a home nurse visit me twice a day. thank god i have insurance because the bills are now starting to come in and they are toping $250,000 already. the hosptial stay alone (where i was asleep most of the time) came to $68,000 and that was just the bed and meds.

that being said... i am fortunate enough to have health insurance (for now) and hate that the fecking governement is now going to be regulating all this shit.

all i'm saying is consider the costs if you get sick, these bastards won't be happy until everyone is broke

Pay for doctor bisits cash.
negotiate price with him--he will, for cash.
pay the fine--year 1, $95, year 2, $300, at least.
if you get diagnosed with cancer or something expensive, or get pregnant, then buy insurance, no longer unavailable due to "preexisting conditions"
ALL the health insurers will be bankrupt by 2014 when the subsidized insurance begins, due to companies dropping their employees insurance, and being forced to immediately pay the bills of newly insured very sick people.
By 2016 there will only be the co-ops and medicaid and medicare.

This is a reality thousands of us Americans are without Health Insurance and why pay for the Government Plan when it won't cover even cataract surgeries, etc. Isn't more sensible to just use our tiny incomes to have Procedures done. All this mumble jumble we hear in the News about pill coverage, we need actual work not pills. Pills are secondary.

Don't count on getting insurance with pre-existings..that doesn't kick in until 2014. As you pointed out, insurance companies will have been forced out of business, bankrupted by that time.

Please realize, the fine is not insurance, it is punishment for disobeying the government order.

If more people had decent jobs the HC problem and housing crisis would be much less of an issue. Yet, instead of making it easier for business to expand and create jobs, they do the exact opposite.

The only logical answer, there is an evil agenda being played out

Next question and this is directed the Government spies reading this: I have a good Auto Insurance Policy that covers Medical if I get banged up in an auto accident. Its $50,000 medical coverage. So wouldn't that be classed as a Medical Insurance?

And so it begins.

This is what all the smart people were talking about while the idiots marched ahead with socialized medicine. This will kill private helth insurance companies. The only thing left will be government subsidized and rationed.

Congratulations America. You have just committed suicide.

Wait a few more months until you turn 65, then pay for Medicare Part B. In the meantime, pay as you go. That's still cheaper than insurance.

This is odd. A restriction for power wheel chairs...you must rent 13 months before purchase is allowed. I don't know if rental is covered...probably not. I suppose they figure good chance you will die before 13 month is up.

Lots of medicare cutbacks early on. Inpatient psych wards cverage lowered right away. Kepp you sanity, if at all possible

The HC is simply a means to collect more taxes.

That is the purpose of the penalty.

They want you to pay the penalty because that is money for the government...cheaper than if they have to cover you.

So, yeah, they want you to pay the fine.

Free money for the powers that be.

I'm not paying the fine. I'm not buying mandated insurance. It's that simple. This "legislation" is blatantly illegal. Clearly unconstitutional.

It probably means that rental only is covered, not purchase. And when you rent, it has to apply to purchase, so after 13 months of rent, you own it and the company can't keep charging you rent.

The thousands and thousands of dollars that people have saved by dealing with doctors directly and not paying a middleman first, it boggles the mind.
Now the middleman will be getting all that money.

Re: Which is cheaper: Paying monthly Health Insurance Premiums or paying the Government Fine
The fine is much cheaper. But combined with the elimination of the pre-existing condition exemption spell the demise of the private insurance industry. So, eventually the federal government will completely control health insurance and the health care industry. Which is the aim of this marxist, communist POS president we have.
