Anonymous Coward User ID: 877737 Australia 04/05/2010 06:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was in the kitchen feeding my cockatoo her daily snack when this sonic BOOM sounded right over my house. I nearly jumped out of my skin. Quoting: georgiaghostI rushed out toward the mailbox where the guy who landscapes my yard was and he pointed out two fighter jets that were flying hellaciously low not far from my neighborhood. They were so low I could make out the pilot's heads. I asked Tucker, my landscaper, what happened ... and he said he was weed eating and looked up and one of the jets looked like it was coming up out of my back yard. He kept saying, "I thought it was gonna hit your house and me and then the ground! I ain't seen nothing like that since Desert Storm!" I watched them for a few seconds and they hauled ass out of dodge. I live in Georgia and I'm NOT near a base of any kind. I'm also not on any flight paths and that is the first air traffic, aside from a crop duster, that I've seen. It was the most god-awful sound I've ever heard. My whole house rattled, a picture fell off the wall, my knees buckled. It was like thunder ... only NOT like thunder because it was like it went inside you and rattled your teeth around. My ears are still ringing and it's probably been about fifteen minutes since it happened. I'm nauseated, dizzy, and still weak kneed. My bird broke two of her blood feathers. I got them snipped down and straightened out. She's back in her cage, but she keeps screaming the cockatoo scream. My dog is currently barking like a maniac on the back deck. What the hell were they doing? Not sure if its related at all but Georgia has the highest rate of H1N1 flu reorted so far..( see below) and link: [link to www.cidrap.umn.edu] At least you know you have a unique empathy with children in war zones!....growing up with that sound every day of their lives. best....for you and cocky! HEALTH THREATS - Georgia's rise in serious H1N1 cases worries CDC - Public health officials are so concerned by an uptick of serious cases of H1N1 flu in the southeastern United States that they called a short-notice press briefing yesterday to urge Americans to be vaccinated against the pandemic strain. They said they are particularly concerned about the "worrisome trend" in Georgia, where "more than 40" people were hospitalized in the past week for lab-confirmed flu. Since mid-February, Georgia has had more flu-related hospitalizations than any other state, as well as more than Georgia has seen since its flu peak in October. Last week, the CDC said that Georgia, Alabama, and South Carolina were experiencing regional activity, the second-highest level of flu activity. The new cases are occurring in adults with chronic medical conditions, a group that health officials have consistently urged to take the H1N1 shot. The new victims were not vaccinated - Georgia had one of the lowest rates of flu-vaccine acceptance last fall. The CDC is sufficiently concerned about the Georgia cases that it has loaned a team of its disease detectives to the state. "Seeing an increase in cases again in Georgia is UNUSUAL. Does that mean we're going to see that in other states? I really don't know." Asked whether the Georgia cases might be the first blip in a feared third wave of flu: "I can't say whether we'll have another wave of infection, but I'm worried about a different possibility. I'm worried that additional cases will be happening day in and day out in people who thought there was no risk anymore." Since the beginning of the pandemic almost a year ago, 265,000 Americans have been hospitalized for H1N1 infections and 12,000 have died, according to CDC estimates. "Ninety percent of those people, about 11,000, are people under 65," in contrast to a normal season in which most victims are elderly. "We estimate that the rate of death in young people is probably five times higher than what we would typically see with seasonal influenza." In an average year, 36,000 Americans die of flu. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 922522 United States 04/06/2010 12:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For the love of ... It just happened AGAIN. I've called my friend at the police station to see if they know anything about it, but he's out on a run. The same picture fell off the wall again. I'm not hanging the damn thing back up. Screw it. If my nervous breakdown ever finishes making me shake like a long tailed cat in a nursing home full of rocking chairs ... I will happily go back to bed. I can handle it happening ONCE. Well ... I didn't handle it very well because I came and posted here about it, but twice? That's not okay. Something is going on. And our skies are clear and perfect, but our tornado sirens have gone off twice. Neither time was close to the sonic booms, though. We don't do tests on those things except on Wednesdays at noon. I don't know what to think. Other odd things: my land line and internet has been problematic. My cable went completely out for about two and a half hours. And my dog keeps peeing in the house. I'm close to joining her. |

Goodbye, halcyon days... There is another theory mentioned, which states that this has already happened. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 753870 United States 04/06/2010 01:35 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My 3 yo granddaughter and I were laying on trampolene taking a break from bouncing. No boom. Just a swooshing noise when it was over us. Weird. My granddaughter started screaming "rocket" and crying. It was almost on top of us before I even heard the thing. I think it was a stealth type jet but I don't know jets. This one was triangular, flat looking and all black. The windows were black and if they had been clear I would have been able to see the pilot clearly. There were no markings and I thought that strange also. Anyone have any idea what kind this could have been? |

That happened a while back and I searched for pics but never found it. It was weird that it was so close and not as loud as would be expected for a jet for that short distance! I guess that is why they call it stealth, huh? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 753870It was weird that it was so close and not as loud as would be expected for a jet for that short distance! I guess that is why they call it stealth, huh? Depends.. But yeah.. mostly they try to make them as undetectable as possible.. The A-10's were actually undetectable sound wise until you were behind them.. at which point you were dead. But yes.. at certain speeds it is easy for them to go unnoticed until their job is done. Which is usually scaring the crap out of civilians. We had been just laying there chilling and watching clouds when it went over. I didn't even hear it coming. It was too damn low. We have some pretty tall pines and fir trees but like I said I thought they were going to hit the tree tops. |
