Here's a theological question.
Since true marriage is between a man, a woman and God and many years ago, I got married via a state license (man, woman and state) and later divorced, was I not truly married, simply living in unmarried fornication?
Quoting: Rev. Moon JewThe theological definition of marriage is "a man shall leave father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall be one". The circumstances of the marriage do not matter, ie priest, ceremony, signing of a contract, etc. Therefore you were married. However, perhaps you should consider the theological definition of divorce. This seems more relevant to your case. Jesus taught that divorce is only allowed in the case of adultery (proven in a legal sense, not simply alleged). Hope this helps.
