The marriage laws protect people from terrible circumstances when the relationship breaks bad, like one party selling joint property, alimony, custody, and things like that. It's a protection.........mostly for women. Without laws, things would be completely out of control and insane.
This pastor is off in left field somewhere.
When children are born, the state can do whatever they want to them if there is a problem, married or not. His reasoning makes no sense.

Go ahead and live under common law if you want. But many states don't recognize it, and if your relationship breaks bad you're not protected. It's really just that simple. Stay at home wife and mom will fair the worst in that circumstance. No marital assets, no alimony, no husband's social security........the laws protect married women in many circumstances when they stayed at home and raised the kids and took care of the home all those years instead of going out and working. No law is perfect, but it's better then nothing. Christians believe until death do us part.
