Interesting. I'd missed that about the space shuttle - so many odd things occurring. I guess if something aside from the volcano is going on we'll know in the next few days. As far as CERN well there a couple of interesting threads on GLP like this one:

Exercise Brilliant Mariner Underway
87 military personnel from 15 NATO nations plus Finland, a Partnership for Peace country, based at the Allied Maritime Command, Northwood are controlling a maritime exercise in the Northern and Baltic seas. The exercise, codenamed Brilliant Mariner, which started on Monday 12 April and runs until 22 April, is designed to ensure NATO’s Response Force is fully prepared to respond as required to operations or crisis situations, wherever in the world they occur.

Brilliant Mariner presents a realistic scenario with challenges for the commanders at sea including maritime security, embargo and humanitarian operations, asymmetric threats and ‘terrorist’ incidents. Exercise Control at Northwood’s role is to lead the escalation of the crisis, monitor the safety of the units at sea, guide NATO and the ‘opponent’ forces and play out a variety of incidents to which the units have to react, including medical, piracy and logistics scenarios.

Exercise Control also has to adapt the scenario to take into account real world events such as the cloud of volcano ash currently hampering air activities.
Regular serving members of NATO’s Armed Forces stationed in Northwood have been augmented by members of NATO’s Reserve Forces and journalists providing a simulated press function. The team is coordinating the movements of 37 warships, including four submarines and an aircraft carrier, and 30 aircraft, manned by 5,500 military personnel from 11 NATO nations plus Sweden, a Partnership for Peace country.

I think they got 48 hours before the peoples timebombs go off in the waiting thing.. Human are only patient for so long before they demand beyond words to actions.

So it is affecting all kinds of areas...

Being here I can say the clear skies are illusive it is many feet up that planes have to worry about I get it..but it is who is forcing the issue that makes no sense.. it would be the airlines risk to fly not the guberment.

As for the Poland President question. I think some threads talked about the US missile shield starting up this month in Poland to the disdain of Russia.. then magically their leaders are removed.. Wonder if the missile shield is still being setup now... hmmmmm...

Course a world leader death is a great excuse to get everyone (leaderwise) together if something else was going on. but not all major leaders are in Europe so this wasn't probably part of that plan of events purpose.

I can say if this gets past the 7 day rule there will be some very very disturbing things that will happen.

I wonder how they are going to explain it is safe to fly when they can't even explain it was unsafe in the first place.

The eruption began tuesday night/wednesday morning.
They shut down flights for northern Norway and Sweden already wednesday evening.

In live up north (where The Spiral occured) - have seen absolutely NO SIGN of ash...we've had some snow from thursday to sunday, pure and white...!

I think the military operations and the timing is interesting to this less than 12 hour later shutdown of the skies like the gentleman above was stating.. they started closing down airspace with no data.. many other volcanoes have errupted in the past few years without the alarms..

As for my co-worker I wouldn't touch him with your hands never mind mine. He is great to work with but in all other aspects he is about as sexy as Pelosi... yeah I went there...
