Leonard Nimoy Retires From Acting
Oh well, Spock can always lead the sing along of "Bilbo Baggins" at the retirement home.

Back in the 1970's Leonard Nimoy wrote a book entitled, I'm Not Spock, a book he wrote to retire himself from the character. Now the 79 year old actor is retiring his showbiz career by announcing his retirement.

"I've been doing this professionally for 60 years," Nimoy said. "I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time."

But haven't we already heard this? After all, Nimoy has taken a hiatus from film and TV before.

"I was away from acting for 12 years, so I guess I was seducible," Nimoy said. "But since J.J. Abrams revived the Star Trek franchise, I felt I owed him something. And I'm glad I did it, because he promised me a good story, and it was," Nimoy explained to the press. "I want to get off the stage," he said. "Also, I don't think it would be fair to Zachary Quinto (who's taken over the iconic role of Mr. Spock). He's a terrific actor, he looks the part, and it's time to give him some space. And I'm very flattered the character will continue."

Nimoys film career began in 1951, where he appeared in mostly B-movies and in small parts on TV. One of his first movies was 1952's Zombies from the Stratosphere. In 1954 he appeared as an army sergeant in the sci-fi thriller Them!. On TV he appeared in all of the popular shows of the time, such as Sea Hunt, The Twilight Zone, Bonanza, The Untouchables, Perry Mason, The Outer Limits and Get Smart.

In 1964 Nimoy and fellow Star Trek cast member William Shatner worked together for the first time on an episode of The Man From U.N.C.L.E. called The Project Strigas Affair. In 1966 he got the part of the half-Vulcan, half-human Mr. Spock— this would be Nimoy's signature role. After Star Trek Nimoy obtained a starring role in the popular TV series, Mission Impossible with Peter Graves.

In the late 1970s, he hosted and narrated the television series In Search of..., a show which investigated paranormal or unexplained events or subjects. He was also in Philip Kaufman's remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Nimoy retired his acting career on several occasions, once in order to direct— he directed Star Trek 3 and 4, Three Men and a Baby, The Good Mother, and several episodes from popular TV shows in the 1980's. Another time he retired from acting for a few years to develop his skills as a photographer. He plans on continuing his career as a photographer for the foreseeable future.

Live Long and Prosper Mr. Nimoy.

Aside from TV and movie appearances, the guy must've done thousands of voice overs in docos too.
