He assures Geophysical the UNAM that the Peninsula of Baja California is going to end up separating of the continent by the continuous movement of the tectonic plates

CITY OF MEXICO, Mexico, abr. 13, 2010. - With the passage of the years, by the earthquakes, the Peninsula of Baja California will separate of the rest of the country.'

Luis Quintanar, head of the department of the Seismology of the department of Geophysical of the Independent National University of Mexico (UNAM), asserted that “the Peninsula of Baja California is going to end up separating of the continent by this same effect of the continuous movement of the tectonic plates”.

“Within several thousands of million years”, he clarified the specialist.

And he is that with each Earth movement, by the earthquakes, there are almost imperceptible millimetre-length separations.

Although the earthquakes of Chile and Baja California did not cause the same.

“If we considered that the earthquake of Chile, that is completely exceptional, magnitude 8,8, it produced a shortening of the day in millionth of second, which is imperceptible, evidently these earthquakes as the one of Haiti or Mexicali also can produce that effect, but in the case of Chile were millionth of second, in the case of these earthquakes are much smaller, practically despicable to want to be considered”, indicated Luis Quintanar.

“The reason is because basically it was an earthquake of an unusual magnitude, we are speaking that is a magnitude 7,2, compared with the average of the magnitude of the earthquakes in that zone that go from 5 to 6”.

It said that it is only coincidence that in which it goes of 2010, has appeared earthquakes of important magnitude in Haiti, Chile, Japan, Mexico, and now Tibet.

“What the Earth is saying to us, it is that it is an alive planet… are involved different tectonic plates, therefore, a relation does not exist cause-effect between an earthquake and another one”, assured.

It reiterated that the present measurements do not allow to know when and where it will happen an earthquake, and much less its magnitude can be known.
