Anybody having issues with their landline phone lines?
I'm having issue, after issue...

This has been ongoing for a couple weeks now. I just keep getting disconnected in the middle of calls, for no apparent reason. I hear a couple clicks and then it automatically hangs up. Qwest says my lines are fine - I beg to differ...

Now, today, I turn on the phone, there's a dial tone. I dial the number and it automatically disconnects me (over and over again before anything even tries to ring through)

I don't have a flippin' clue what is going on, but I'm hearing small rumors that it's happening all over - anybody else having issues?

This insanity is making me insane - lol

i dont believe in phones.
A great deal of intelligence can be invested in ignorance when the need for illusion is deep.

yah, i've been having problems for a couple months. it's not the wiring, it seems to me to be caused by some kind of interference, like satellites or something as i can hear a squelching sound sometimes, and like clicks and stuff. other times it's static, sometimes it just cuts out. sometimes it works just fine.

That's exactly what I'm going through - strange background noise. It's intermitent though - today is awful... Then, I hear a click, click and it's dead.

A friend in TX (I'm in UT) said he changed phone companies last week. He explained the issues he was having and it mirrors mine. He's still having issues...

Another friend told me that Verizon merged with Alltel? They found it against anti-trust laws or something and that is what's causing it, but my provider is Qwest so I don't see a connection to that story -

It's certainly not improving my cheery personality. Especially, when you need a fax machine to do business...

We also have been having problems with severe background noise here in Illinois. Haven't been disconnected yet just can't hear anything but clicking and static.

I often hear music on the line. The phone company says "everything looks ok".

THe incidence of music is erratic. I can go for whole weeks without it ; then all of the sudden it shows up again and stays around for a few days.

Anybody have a clue, or opinion on what may be causing all of the interference (sp?) ?

It could be many things but if you called the their repair department they would have done a test and did not see a physical trouble on your line like a short, ground or cross with another line. So it would have to be a trouble that would not show up as a physical trouble. If its inside your house I would have to know if you have a cordless phone. If so then unplug it and plug in a regular phone with regular cords on it.

If thats not it then do you have a burglar alarm that plugs into your phone line? If so then unplug it. If it works then call your burlar alarm company and tell them its messed up and cutting your phone off.

If it not in your house then the only thing else it could be is your phone line might be on fiber optics or what they call "pair gain". You could have a bad card in that type system but the repairman has to come out and change the card out in the field and in the central office.

People mock landlines but if you have ever been in a disaster area, often landlines are the only thing that still works.

I think I read where there was going to be a concerted effort to force people onto cells altogether {mind control :)}

It depends on what sort of landline you have. If its a landline from one of the old Bell companies then it powers itself from their Central office and will still work if your power goes off. If its a landline from a cable TV company then its a digital line and requires that it goes through their digital box in your house. If the power goes off and that box does not work then your phone will not work.

we had this, it was awful! and it got LOUDER as time went on.
the phone company finally came out 2 week later, to check their side of the lines.
at the corner of the yard where it meets the neighbors was the electric pole.that is what they use to hook up the little boxes.it had been remounted by the electric workers installing their new pole.
turns out the noisy crackling and sizzling SO LOUD was simply corroded wires on the pole inside that little box.
we listened to that awful noise for several weeks.
it just got progressively worse.
