Hayward has stated that his job might be at risk as a result of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill, admitting that "We made a few little mistakes early on."[15] On May 14th, 2010, Hayward called the Mexico Oil Disaster 'Relatively Tiny' in comparison to the size of the Gulf of Mexico.[15]
