Will ObamaCare destroy our White Castle hamburgers?

By now, we’ve all read about the impending destruction to our fiscal stability and international credit rating being caused by the super-expensive ObamaCare program foisted upon an unwilling American public by the tone-deaf Democrat congress. Just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, it gets worse: We may end up losing our White Castle hamburgers!

Jeffrey Anderson, writing in our sister-publication, The Weekly Standard, tells a horror story calculated to raise the hackles on the necks of every self-respecting junkfood junkie here in Derby City. Death panels? IRS enforcement squads? Medical care rationing? Pulling the plug on Grandma? No, horribile dictu, the new federal law may bring an end to our beloved Sliders. Belly Bombs. White Castles; those tasty little square hamburgers with the five little holes.

White Castle reports that a single provision of ObamaCare would cut its net income in half -- and then some. Anderson reports that Jamie Richardson, a White Castle executive, said, "We’ve been working on this internally from a number of different perspectives. One [provision] that has [us] the most concerned is the $3,000 penalty that kicks in when an employee’s portion of a premium exceeds 9.5% of Household Income." Richardson elaborates, "In present form, this provision alone would lead to approximate increased costs equal to over 55% of what we earn annually in net income (based on [our] past 4-year average). Effectively cutting our net income in half would have [a] devastating impact on the business -- cutting future expansion and more job creation at least in half. Sadly, it makes it difficult to justify growing where jobs are needed most -- in lower income areas." And that's all from just a single provision in a 2,700-page act.

Talk about The Law of Unintended Consequences! Scientists Sandy Weinberg, Ph.D. and Ronald Fuqua, Ph.D., writing in the current issue of Scientific Computing, conclude that ObamaCare—a/k/a, the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act, H.R. 3590—is so complicated, and influences so many areas, that it may be years before the direct, indirect and unintended consequences are fully understood. They suggest that “…all complex laws, this one included, have hidden, unintended consequences of profound significance. Most major legislative acts contain a maze of provisions resulting from the compromise processes of our system. But, no matter what provisions are included in a bill, there is one law that is universal: the law of unintended consequences. Over the next few years, we’ll be discovering a number of indirect effects of the health care reform act. Some will prove positive, others will identify needed fixes.”

Write your Senators and Congresspersons. Tell ‘em those 16,000 IRS agents won’t take our sliders away until they pry ‘em from our cold, dead fingers!
