SEOUL, May 25 (AFP) - South Korea's currency and stock markets fell sharply Tuesday amid escalating tensions over the deadly sinking of a warship and Europe's debt crisis.

Analysts said the markets were jolted by heightened cross-border tension following a report that North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il had ordered troops and civil organisations on combat alert.

Seoul-based North Korea Intellectual Solidarity (NKIS) said the alert order was issued last Friday, the day a multinational investigation team in Seoul announced its findings into the sinking of the Cheonan on March 26.

NKIS said vice minister of national defence O Kuk-Ryol announced through a fixed radio channel that Kim had ordered a combat alert.

The source was quoted as saying that the ruling party ordered organisations to stage mass rallies under the slogan "Revenge for revenge, war for war".

Security service members and reservists were told to wear uniform to raise their spirits, the source said.

Kim Dae-Sung, a leader of NKIS, said it was exceptional for uniforms to be worn and for Kim to order a combat alert for members of the public.

Just to confirm, South Korea has started FM radio propaganda broadcasts but is still setting up and preparing the loudspeakers which are aimed across the DMZ at the North.

North Korea has promised to attack these loudspeakers if they start them up. South Korea has promised to hit back if that happens.

Heavy stuff going one. I really hope this doesn't get to crazy. With me living in Alaska and all this a bit to close to home.

You can clearly see who has the military advantage south korea is openly mocking the north with these broadcasts.

It's like saying common pussy if you dare.

SEOUL, May 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea plans to hold an anti-submarine drill on Thursday in waters off the west coast in its first show of military force after the North's torpedo attack on a Seoul warship in March, navy officials said.
