There is one major reason that was left out of the previous post - and it's truly a major one.

There are a lot of Christian Fundamentalists who post here. Many of them find they can feel superior by constantly reminding people that they are NOT GAY! Whatever other sins they may someday have to confess to the Lord, that will not (according to them, anyway) be one of them.

Somehow this makes them feel truly superior to those who are gay. The end result is they feel free to sling various slurs that would NOT be tolerated in a real world situation. In the workplace people and their employers can be sued to kingdom come if this sort of crap were allowed. In a social situation, the people mouthing this kind of homophobic hate speech would look like pathetic unsophisticated judgmental boobs and rednecks (which most of them are!)

The truly sad thing is that often times these idiots feel emboldened by the anonymity afforded them from behind a keyboard and a monitor many thousands of miles away from their fellow posters and they feel somehow "macho" or more "manly" by belittling and insulting those who are gay. In the real world, were they to do such a thing, they might be surprised to learn that they guy next to them at the bar, the one with the 20" biceps who is towering over them, just happens to be gay. A sissy he is NOT. But gay, yes, he is. And hearing such blanket insults hurled at him and his fellows, he might become enraged enough to grab one of these pathetic assholes and throw them out, thru the window, not bother with the door. Or perhaps rather than throwing them out, he'd choose just to pound the piss out of them where they stood. I've seen such things happen more than once in a bar in NYC and another time at the Comedy Club in LA. (This was much funnier than the pathetic comic who was on stage when it broke out!) What these self-rightous bible thumping idiots who call themselves Christians have failed to learn is not every gay man is some limp-wrist twit who flounces around discussing women's fashion or floral design. Many gay men are cops, and fireman and pro athletes, and all kinds of other "stereotypically" masculine professions. If you knew half the gay Marines I know, you'd fall over in a dead faint!

I heard a group of particularly raunchy Marines talking about one of the recruits in their group who, they'd finally figured out, was gay. They were discussing the difference between them and him. One finally summarized it this way: When we are on leave, we like to fight, and fuck, and drink. Not in that order, necessarily, but that's what we occupy ourselves with. Our buddy who's gay - hell, he likes to fight and to fuck and to drink, too. 'Bout the only difference between him and the rest of us is who he chooses to fuck - and that doesn't seem to be any of our business just like it's none of his business which broad we're banging from one night to the next. Hell, at least I don't have to worry about him stealing some broad I'm interested in, and that's a lot more than I can say for most of my "brothers" in the corps!

Nine tenths of those 'gay threads' are started by 'straight guys' who have an axe to grind.

There is an exception in June due to gay pride. However in nearly all instance a 'straight person' starts the 'war' by posting crap that causes our LGBT community members to 'retaliate' and post positive LGBT stuff.
