Daniel User ID: 368082 United States 05/28/2010 10:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thanks. So, the idea here is that the BOP is NOT resting on the sea floor in an upright position? Quoting: susanoit's upright but it's being supported entirely by the well pipe it would seem.. at least that's how I understand it from what we've been watching they are NOT telling the public this.. if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will call me on it soon ;) Who ever dreamed we'd all even know what a BOP is? Damn. Hey, "She BOP" - Cyndi Lauper Anyhow, from what I understand there is a "Break" about 400' down in the Pipe. Then there is something else a few feet down that is drawing stuff from the Outside and then up the pipe and out through BOP. Daniel |

More important, our young children live with us on the Gulf Coast. Is it all gonna blow. I'm not naive, I've been paying attention to this nightmare, but could it be a worst case, region-blasting scenario? :-( Quoting: Anonymous Coward 907254try to get out as soon as you can. this could go real bad very fast. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 984598 United States 05/28/2010 10:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Let me explain as I am a mechanical engineer with years of experience in matters such as this. Quoting: RF 503158The BOP is secured to the sea floor with large "bolts". These bolts, and it's weight, are what hold it in place. The BOP is not designed to hold back enormous amounts of pressure. In a typical operation oil simply passes through the BOP and up a pipe and into a ship. In many cases the oil is being sucked up the pipe and there is no pressure on the BOP at all. In this case, the BOP is being pushed upward - OFF OF THE SEA FLOOR - by the tremendous amount of pressure. When they attempted the top kill they temporarily sealed up the top, meaning the pressure was not being released through the leaks but was instead being held back by the BOP. The bolts that hold the BOP in place began to break loose from the sea floor so they stopped the operation. But now the BOP is being moved all over the place by the pressure and it is breaking loose. So they either don't back the ROV up far enough to show it or they use the arms on the ROV to hold onto the riser pipe. This way the ROV moves with the pipe and since there is nothing to gauge movement by down there it doesn't look like it's moving at all. We are screwed and the OP is correct. Damn. This is holy fuckarooney time. |

The water shortage also makes a person wonder. DOES ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS??? [link to www.america-in-prophecy.org] all i know is that where i am from up on the Panhandle part of Texas where the first oil field was struck out by Panhandle, Texas -- up there all along the Canadian River there are signs about not walking on the land, or driving, or camping, or anything cause there is gas trapped down under there that could blow. Barbed wire blocking lots of land off and signs. I asked my Dad about when I was 7 or 8, and he took me out there to learn how to shoot a gun. He had us aim the other way away from the places with the signs and the barbed wire. He laughed and said maybe we better not even jump up and down. I got to shoot the Luger and the .45 revolver that my Great-Grandad wore as the Sheriff of Corpus Christi back in the early 1900s. |

Can't exactly remember what the signs say . . . something like "off-limits" "unstable underground gas deposits" "no activity allowed" "no camping, driving, walking" etc. something like that |
