Is it true that the gulf oil slick is red?

So is it true that this is the first time that an oil slick has been red? Any experts care to weigh in here?

oil is normally black, but...

Kind of odd how no one will touch this thread. If the oil slick really IS red, and that really IS abnormal, shouldn't that be discussed more? Where the fuck are you people?

I've seen a couple threads on GLP about this and what I gather is two things

1. Scientists were puzzled by it

2. Could be caused by the methane gas
