Greetings all. this whole story makes me want to run and dig a hole and place my cranium into. All this techno babble as an attempt to first make everyone come to the thought process that the methodology of how emails work is far to complex for the average american to wrap your minds around coupled with talks of multi paltform environments intermeshing as if it were the uncharted neuro paths of a new species of life. Do not buy into this CRAP!

I administer a email server that recieves anywhere from 100,000 to 150,000 emails a day. I have also worked on several types of email servers, exchange,domino and eudora. Now not knowing exactly what type of mail system the goberment is using It is safe to assume that on the client end. (workstations and laptops) that microsoft is the desktop engine running probably 90 percent if not more of the clients unless a domino environment exists. Given this we can safely extrapolate the potential types of mail servers they may be running also given the fact microsoft has huge government contracts as well. Understanding the nature of how these devices function, one is left scratching their heads as to how this could occur and how reliable is any of our information gathering if we can't even keep track of a few million emails. Which sounds like alot, but given the volume of email traffic this is just a drop in the bucket.

A company known as ENTRUST was brought in to provide additional email security for government agencies by applying a additional layer of security to the already revolving door security of microsoft outlook the end client used for primarily EXCHANGE environments, But can be used for other email environments. I personally believe they may also be using a DOMINO mail server as it is very robust for larger organizations and has some fabulous databasing tools built into it for a very powerful mail system and typically considered a bit more secure. Domino mail servers are used in conjuction with lotus notes and can easily be intergrated into a unix environment or so they claim. ENTRUST claimed that this additional layer would provide government like security

Doing some additional research I came across an article from 2001 in which it appears the U.S. Government has setup a peer to peer network for sharing data within the .gov domain. For those who may not know a ptp network is essentially like Kazaa,shareazaa,soulseek etc. Where files can be shared within a personal network defined by the software and trasnferred easily to and fro. Also know for there security breaches they cause as tcp ports need to be opened in secure networks to allow this traffic to pass depending on hpysical location and domains they are a part of. This can also offer a back door persay to allow things to slip out into the night virtually untraceable given the nature of ptp file sharing. Hmmm can anyone say backdoor?

Now lets consider the skill levels employeed at the U.S. government in terms of infrastructuring design and administration. Since the rtech age boomed hackers have constantly tried to "break" into . gov websites and other areas of "high security". In alot of the cases where the hackings are successful many times the perp. invovled is tracked and brought in to work for the government. This is how it has been going since the beginning, it also is why you hear very little of successful government hackings. They need to keep the lid on this in order to maintain the business as usual front and use the crimes against the individuals to literally blackmail them into servatude for the government. How's that for recruiting?

Since 9/11 one of the biggest pushes in Technology history was made known as "DISASTER RECOVERY". The day the buildings collapsed many companies who housed their main office in one of the two towers. Literally were wiped off the face of the planet. All digital data of the existance of said companies were gone due to the fact offsite backups where not being done for these companies. In fact many simply kept the tapes onsite to be buried in the rubble lost forever. The disaster recovery industry became one of the most profitable markets in Information Technology following 9/11 incident. Rigid standards were developed above and beyond the grandfather, father, son backup methodologies that had been inplace prior to this. Why were these processes not put in to place at perhaps the most important information gathering source out there Our Government!.

Given all this one needs to seriously ask how could something like this occur. If the government had been applying all the technology and methodologies in todays current IT industry one is forced to determine that it is by design not an error. Where are the offsite backups of mail stores? How could they become LOST? Were they even done to begin with? In a corporate environment heads would roll if a VP or CEO lost all his emails, Yet we the people accept this a just one of those things that happen with computers. The real crime here is that this should never have happened and that in todays Information Technology infrastructuring it really could not happen.

France is at the brink of big Political changes.
The man who wanted to be The King of Europe is about to fall. Relations with
England, The Netherlands, Italy and more countries in Europe will be worse and
worse. The people of France will ask him to leave. A young man comes in his

He is referring to Jacques Chirac, the leaving president. By "young man" he is of course referring to Sarkozy, the man now leading the polls.
