Gaiaman, how will the situation in Kosovo turn out, and how much will it affect the international scene?

Dear Soul,

We saw tears of joy.
It will be change.
There will come violence.
It even will affect world relations.
NATO v Russia tensions!
Eu division, United Nations division.
It can be a spark to a new Balkan war, or
even greater!
Fire at the border between Serbia and Kosovo.

Take Care,
GM

Ex-Serb army reservists attack Kosovo border

AFP
2008-02-21

Several hundred former Serbian army reservists attacked Kosovo police with stones and burning tyres Thursday on the Kosovo-Serbia border.

Thick black plumes of smoke billowed above the border crossing point of Merdare, in southern Serbia, after the attack by the angry group, who Serbian police said numbered around 300.

The violence was the latest in a series of incidents that followed Sunday's unilateral declaration of independence from Serbia by Kosovo's ethnic Albanian-dominated parliament -- a move vehemently opposed by Belgrade.

After crossing a Serbian checkpoint unhindered, the reservists pelted around 100 Kosovo anti-riot police positioned on the opposite side of the boundary with stones.

The police responded by putting up metal barricades and barbed wire as a helicopter of the NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) peacekeeping mission hovered overhead.

Some of the reservists, civilians who once served in the Serbian army, attempted to move the metal barricades, but fled the scene as the smoke became too strong.

Kosovo police said they had stepped up security on the Kosovo-Serbia border having been alerted to the approaching former reservists.

"We increased security measures and increased our presence at all the border crossings with Serbia," Kosovo Police Service spokesman Veton Elshani said.

"If they try to enter the territory of Kosovo, we will not allow them through because we consider it as a threat to security," he said.

Ywo other border crossing points at Banja and Jarinje were closed for 24 hours from Tuesday after at least 1,000 Serbs from Kosovo and Serbia ransacked and torched the two sites.

Russia threat to use force over Kosovo
Quote

Moscow's ambassador to NATO says Russia could resort to "Brute force" if NATO or the European Union challenge the UN on Kosovo.

According to Interfax news agency, Dmitry Rogozin in a video link-up from Brussels said, "If the European Union works out a common position, or if NATO breaches its mandate in Kosovo, these organizations will be in conflict with the United Nations."

"We too will have to proceed from the view that in order to be respected we must use Brute force, in other words armed force."
