The problem with a large EMP is this: By the time you are aware there is one, it is too late to protect anything.
IOW, people expect things to just halt, cars die, phones down and so forth. By the time you figure out what happened, your electronics are fried.
That's the theory anyway.
Now I have to go look up copper foil tape, lol!
