Why should we doubt the White House’s designated point man Thad Allen? Well, for starters, it’s clear that he’s taken BP’s CEO Tony Hayward’s side from the get-go. It was shocking to hear him reiterate Hayward’s denial of the 10 and 20 mile underwater oil plumes detected and verified by scientists in the Gulf of Mexico.

That was the first impression that conveyed a “cozy relationship” between Allen and Hayward. Thad Allen’s response to reporters’ questions on the plumes was an echo of Hayward’s answer: “We can’t definitely prove that they exist.”

So who is Adm. Thad Allen working for? Tony Hayward? or President Obama? or the people of the U.S.?

That answer became “conflict of interest” clear when Adm. Thad Allen and BP’s CEO Tony Hayward were seen feasting and drinking together, having a good old time, as they dined on shrimp and pasta at a famously expensive restaurant in New Orleans, the Eleven 79. Is this the picture President Obama had in mind when he appointed Thad Allen to be in charge of the largest oil spill catastrophe in the history of the industrial age—a nice, cozy relationship between Thad and Tony?

I don’t know about anyone else out there, but this is the sort of thing that makes me want to scream at all the crooked politicians that don’t gave a damn about protecting our natural resources, our environment, our air and water, or our public safety in general.

Here’s a criminal oil thug accused of gross negligence, Tony Hayward, feasting happily with his good friend, Thad Allen, the man who is supposed to be working for us, enjoying their shrimp dinners together while the entire Gulf of Mexico sinks into a putrid oil pit. Instead of being in prison where Hayward belongs for committing crimes against nature and millions of people residing on the Gulf coast, he’s sipping cocktails, laughing and making toasts and boasts, absolutely certain that he has nothing to fear from the United States Government.

Washington (CNN) – The point man for the Obama administration’s response to the massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is defending the government’s relationship with energy giant BP.

“I don't think it's an issue of control,” Allen said. “ … Access to the discharge site is controlled by the technology that was used for the drilling, which is owned by the private sector. They have the eyes and ears that are down there.”

He added: “Our responsibility is to conduct proper oversight to make sure they do that.”

Allen should have been removed a long time ago from heading up this GoM operation - he's been behind the curve from the beginning...and now we find out about this dinner date he had with Hayward. I wonder when POTUS and his administration will get their act together, clean house and get folks in there who will have a real sense of urgency about this catastrophe. But perhaps this is all theatre as some have said and Allen and others are doing exactly what they've been told to do, which is not much.
