My ex boss and his wife were both on anti depressants. Scary people!!! both of them. Hostile, nasties...

My ex boss...he would change from day to day. One day I might get someone kind of normal and ok to deal with...the next day...he would be "out of control" weird. No kidding. He would say weird off the wall stuff and act scary.
He was also a closet alcoholic. I think both the alcohol and the anti depressants interacted with each other.
I would smell alcohol in his office from time to time so I know he drank at work.

He owned his own business ...so he could get away with acting insane at times.

I bet a lot of those given anti-depressants have been mis-diagnosed.

Schizos and bi-polars should never be scripted for them.

Anti-depressants don't make you happier anyways, they just alter a person's perception of reality and for many that is a turn for the worse as they lose track of themselves.

Natural remedies should be a first option, but since there is no money in that for Big Pharma or the "Doctors," it is never an option for so many at all.

I agree, and i think there are some good points to remember...everyone's body chemistry is different, everything in moderation, try natural/homeopathic remedies before chemical/drug programs.

Some people are in a crisis situation and may need a drug temporarily, just to get them past the crisis, but beyond that could be dangerous. Always look at side effects and watch for symptoms (and patient reviews online). Many times the side effects are far worse than what is being treated. We can see, via commercials & ads, that drugs are being pushed to deal with everything and this is not a good thing. They seem to go to the polarities, either make zombies or wacked out psychos.

It's far better to deal with the problems at hand than to mask and repress with drugs and cause further problems.

That's my 2 cents.

i knew someone who took paxil for a while, and then quit cold turkey, got very suicidal

In conclusion: If a child is raised with proper nutrition and in an emotionally sound environment, with a healthy amount of intellectual and physical stimulation, along with the proper amounts of love and encouragement there would be almost ZERO need for Meds...That's why I always say that problems start at home...Study anyone in prison, what will you find in what I outlined above?

Oh NO, not a good idea to go off of an anti-depressant all of the sudden. Many of them have to be stepped down. Especially if they were gradually stepped up, that's a good clue.

Never go off of any drug without consulting Dr., asking pharmacist, or reading the info to find out about what should be done. That can be deadly in more ways than one, as evidenced by your story.

Good for you, and I totally agree. We've been conditioned to think we have to consult a professional and that we're helpless without the advice of experts. I learned the hard way just as you did. None of the meds prescribed helped my depression, and it finally dawned on me that I had to work it out myself. There's rarely, if ever, a magic bullet for any of our problems, and it's very empowering to take responsibility for ourselves. I stopped dwelling on myself and started reaching out to others with random acts of kindness. And I used my intuitive abilities to figure out other changes I needed to make in my lifestyle and diet. I know there are extreme cases that aren't so simple, but most of us are capable of bucking up as you say. I think it's often laziness and fear that keeps us from doing just that.

I think its a case of chicken or egg which came first, rather than merely a result of drug ingestion.

There is also a psychological component that isn't being factored in. These people who are first seeking treatment are starting to come into a state of acceptance of something being "wrong" with them. This may be a very hard thing to accept - really it's not a byproduct of modern society - self criticism. So here they were mildy depressed or agitated in there own mind - then for whatever reason seek treatment and the additional psychological stress of being "less" than normal, or something "wrong" with themselves on top of the actual symptoms will almost always cause an increase in the symptoms and feelings of depression. The same thing can be expected with the introduction of a psychiatric medication. This component should have more weight on both NEW therapy and NEW psychiatric medication.

My mother was on an extremely low fat vegan diet for years when she started to get depressed. I told her to start eating some salmon and more variety of food but I don't think she listened. Another thing that can cause mental issues is B12 deficiency, commonly found in vegetarians, the elderly and people on acid reflux meds. But brin that up to a doctor and they will laugh at you and write another scrip.

I add weight to the argument regarding hostilities, because after the initial effect wore off in some months, I became a very focused very driven torrent of hostility, I never hurt anyone. happyly I kept to myself..

first thing I noticed was I became very good at first person shooter and general combat games, such perfect focus, single mindedness and nerves of steel.. a target was a target and nothing got in the way once it was deemed as such, every move every action calculated, pre thought.. and in such silence and calm thought, like a killing machine programmed to kill

and that was just in PC games.. older ones too not too realistic..

im very thankful that it didnt translate into real life as much as it has with others because I live a rather lonely life, at the time it was a very good thing

and all this because I asked a doctor could I be helped with the nerves and anxiety of starting a new job.... he didnt even review me.. few questions no history and I walked out with this stuff.. I learned the hard way

I kept to myself but I had to endure eventually having a 100% driven and acceptable urge to destroy, to simply delete.. remove someone who caused the slightest of problem.. in real life.. these are the thoughts that went through my head.. that I never acted on but in my mind it was pure logic,

there was no regret
there was no compassion, no love.. no care
I felt nothing.. and if I felt something it was hate, but it wasnt hate.. it just was the "right" thing to do.. as if it was part of a program, a directive.. I was simply doing the right thing

the rest of the spectrum of emotions, love, care.. happiness.. I had to act. fake.. in order to be normal because I never felt that

what snapped me out of it was, I found a nice girl.. someone who was loving and caring and affectionate but I found out that I couldn't feel much back.. I knew she was a nice girl, someone I could love.. but because of these tablets I couldn't.. I had to fake love fake the feeling.. act because the space between knowing I should be feeling something.. and actually doing it.. it was an empty void like someone cut the wires of love and care.. I knew my own personality.. but I no longer felt it.. the transmission was broken.. black.. not there

so I stopped taking them, and from what I read I was lucky.. i'd only been on them 6 months or less so maybe I wasn't intune with the side effects too much

if anything it was a very wonderful experience,
for me when I stopped taking them it was like being permanently drunk, I drove my scooter ok but.. cold sweats, shaking, lack of balance.. unable to eat much without being sick.. it truly knocked me around.. nasty stuff

emotions flooded back I haddent felt in almost 6 months
and I felt alive.. I still had side effects physical ones not emotional.. and it was a hell of a ride learning to deal with sadness or happiness again


but... I say this to anyone who thinks they cant live without that shit in them tablets
