How far can the prevailing winds in the Gulf of Mexico carry toxic chemicals?
And I am right in saying the prevailing wind direction at this time of year in the Gulf is south/southwest to northeast?

That Lindsey Williams guy said it was northwest to east/south-east. I don't believe that is correct?

If you read the concentration reports, it goes from 1200ppb one day to 40ppb the next, then back up. So right now, the prevailing winds aren't steadily taking it inland.

If they do start blowing north steadily, bear in mind that aromatic hydrocarbons like benzene only last a day or two before breaking down in the air; so at normal wind speeds they'll cover a state or two.
