Testing stations in the Gulf have detected levels of benzene three times higher than what OSHA considers to be safe
Furthermore :

"Not only that, but WWLTV in New Orleans is reporting that hydrogen sulfide has been detected in the Gulf of Mexico at levels as high as 1,192 parts per billion.

The concentration threshold at which humans begin to experience physical symptoms from hydrogen sulfide is about 5 to 10 parts per billion."

BTW it's good to be concerned about benzene. It is one of the very few materials to be an actual proven human carcinogen. Most of the materials that are listed as carcinogens are done so based on animal studies or because the structure is similar to something that is thought it could be a carcinogen.

Not slow at all....first you loose your sense of smell...by that point you gave seconds to get to fresh air.

If not you collapse, you go to sleep, and you never wake up.

Re: Testing stations in the Gulf have detected levels of benzene three times higher than what OSHA considers to be safe
I have leukemia and one of the things they asked me is if I had exposure to benzene. Read the following on benzene. If people down there are being exposed to this it is not good.

Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is produced by the burning of natural products. It is a component of products derived from coal and petroleum and is found in gasoline and other fuels. Benzene is used in the manufacture of plastics, detergents, pesticides, and other chemicals. Research has shown benzene to be a carcinogen (cancer-causing). With exposures from less than five years to more than 30 years, individuals have developed, and died from, leukemia. Long-term exposure may affect bone marrow and blood production. Short-term exposure to high levels of benzene can cause drowsiness, dizziness, unconsciousness, and death.

This whole Gulf coast situation is a nightmare. They are NOT telling us what is really going on.

I get more information from here than the T.V. news.

Many people don't have a clue.

H2S +H2O =h2SO4= SULPHURIC ACID = ACID RAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It will kil vegetation, young animals etc etc. It is DEADLY not only to humans in HIGH concentrations but to EVERYTHING ELSE in lower concentrations. A poster yesterday had checked the rain and the ACIDITY WAS OFF THE SCALE! He had posted a tinypic of the bright yellow test strip! If anyone can get out of the Gulf GET OUT NOW!!!!!! I know it is easier said than done but with a pressure of SEVENTY THOUSAND PONDS PER SQUARE INCH AT THE WELLHEAD WHO ON THIS EARTH WILL CAP THIS GUSHER! it is humanely impossible as far as I am concerned. Even if they do it will be decades until it is safe or pleasant to live in the Gulf again! I have no idea how far inland is safe! I have symptoms and I am a thousand miles inland! There are no insects in my garden!!!!!!!!

Here are symptoms of Hydrogen Sulfide I posted earlier this week. Both low and high exposure symptoms.

Hydrogen Sulfide exposure symptoms(H2S) Rotten egg sour gas

Chronic low-level exposure of hydrogen sulfide results primarily in irritation to mucous membranes and the respiratory system. People exposed to hydrogen sulfide can lose their ability to smell the gas even though it is still present in the environment.

Low-level exposure of hydrogen sulfide most often affects the mucous membranes and may show the following few physical signs:
o Conjunctivitis (even at levels of only 4 ppm)
o Pharyngitis
o Wheezing
o Headaches
o Asthenia
o Bronchitis

High-level exposures of hydrogen sulfide result in more neurologic and pulmonary symptoms.
o Cough
o Dyspnea
o Vertigo
o Confusion
o Nausea and vomiting
o Possible loss of consciousness
o Hemoptysis

Very high concentrations lead to cardiorespiratory arrest because of brainstem toxicity.
o Myocardial infarction
o Sudden loss of consciousness ("knockdown")
o Seizure
o Cardiopulmonary arrest
o Bradycardia
o Tremulousness
o Agitation
o Cyanosis
o Acute respiratory distress syndrome [ARDS])

I am very chemically sensitive and get SSD because of it.
I left Florida 3 weeks ago because my eyes started burning, around my mouth was burning and I was having breathing problems.

Re: Testing stations in the Gulf have detected levels of benzene three times higher than what OSHA considers to be safe
I live in Mobile and am trying to make the appropriate arrangements to leave myself, but I can't do that until I either sell my house or have it rented out. Student loans will have to be paid back within 6 months and the only method I have to pay for them is with my house, which, fortunately for me, is paid off. I'm gonna bust my ass in the next few weeks to attempt to get this thing on the market and hope some gullible sheep will jump at a hot asking price. I'll take a loss if it means saving my own life.

I've made up my mind to leave my home, the Gulf Coast which I have grown to love so much. It is now a shadow of its former self with no end in sight. I imagine this being a similar feeling cokeheads go through when they just ran out of their last 8 ball. You love something so much, but you know it will kill you if you continue down the same path.

Or maybe I'll just put a bullet in my head. Why prolong the agony any further, humans fucking suck.

This is like the perfect storm. The Petri Dish is the entire Gulf Coast. What they could not spray before they can now spray and test on a toxified population and have plausible deniability. Fort Detrick and CDC are no doubt working over time. Dead people dont file claims only living ones do.
Which way is the wind blowing today. The weather is going to carry this pollution and contaminate far and wide. How is BP going to compensate that? They are not..if they can get away with it..
Wheres your EPA NOW...Wheres your Government giving out information and warnings...they are not..its keep the lid on time..until they have the balls to make the order..
Get out or live in a toxic soup..
Never let a crisis go to waste. Intimidate the press.Silence the people see how it goes. Oilwell doom..ITS FOR EVERYONE
