A city known for it's masonic ties and architecture [ link to vigilantcitizen.com] Cornerstone dedication at The Forks: The visit to the site of the Human Rights Museum illustrates Her Majesty's support for Canadian efforts to educate and expand the global discussion on human rights. As leader of the Commonwealth, Her Majesty has long been a champion of human rights, working hard to abolish apartheid in South Africa. Her Majesty dedicates a stone from Runnymede—the site of the 1215 signing of the Magna Carta, the document considered to be one of the most significant steps toward democratic freedoms and our contemporary concept of human rights—as the cornerstone of the museum. Once finished, the museum will be a national centre of learning, where Canadians and people from around the world can engage in discussion and commit to taking action against hate and oppression. The Queen pauses to greet Canadians who have come to see the dedication of the cornerstone. [ link to winnipeg.ctv.ca] |

I was presented to her at same place that the stone is being dedicated, the Governor Generals residence back in 1970 and am thinking I might attend this ceremony, just to check out the stone. |
