Corexit 9500 = Agent Orange
Apparently, there is no shortage of hyperbole. No one knows yet the full impact on the biosphere.

Here are some links and some information:

Dr. Seth Forman appeared on MSNBC this morning and talked about this problem. He likened Corexit to Agent Orange.

The manufacturer claims it is safer than dish soap, less toxic than icecream:

As more oil workers fall sick with the increased use of chemical dispersants the contrast with how BP and the company which makes the dispersant being used could not be more stark.

There is beginning to be an awareness of just how far reaching the effects of dispersed petroleum of going to be...

As the oil gushes from the broken well head at the sea floor, Rader says it has the potential to contaminate each layer of the water column that, "directly exposes those animals to toxicity, at the surface including the very sensitive surface zones where not only sea turtles and marine mammals and sea birds can be oiled, but also where the highways for fish larvae exist. And then as it rains back into the abyss over a much wider area carrying toxicants back into the deep sea where ancient corals and other sensitive ecosystems exist."

Moreover, such effects seem to happen at low concentrations -- as low as 20 parts per million. So I asked Jackson and her crew to "drill down" (pun not intended, I promise) on just what sort of effect dumping hundreds of thousands of gallons of a substance that contains lots of 2-butoxyethanol would have on the Gulf.

Jackson gave the floor to Paul Anastas, assistant administrator for EPA's Office of Research and Development and the Science Advisor to the Agency. His answer surprised me. Rather than discuss the toxicity of 2-butoxyethanol, Anastas sought to assure us it was no longer in use -- because the Gulf cleanup crew had already dumped all of the Corexit 9527A it had in hand into the Gulf, and were now using only Corexit 9500.

I see they apply it directly to the leak so it mix directly at the source.

That thing serve only BP pocket and nothing more, they hide the extend of the oil by diluting it more, this make only thing worst and spread fasters but less visible from the surface.

When all that millions tons deadly chemicals start to really enter the cycle and rain down on the continent it will be madness everything will die like under acid, and poisons, but still BP refuse to stop using it and no one say anything to that. As if the Oil and natural gas are not bad enough themselves.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^well here is the first tip off they are lying like the devil. stuff to disperse oil can no way be less fkg toxic than ice cream. they should have at least said anti freeze, it would have been more plausible.

There was a link on one post days ago explaining that Corexit is one of the more toxic of the commercially available dispersants but it was manufactured by BP or a consociate so they bought it from themselves basically, that would make sense that they use it and not some of the other ones even if they are much less toxic, and since they refuse to disclose the exact chemical composition
one can only believe the story even more.

As for the rest the eco-terrorist just like Al Gore & all the gang, are where? one expect such concerned earth loving creatures to be all day on the news screaming huh? in this whole thing and you should see for yourself what their real interest are then, surely not to save the planet, these so called green are only an arm for totally different interests, evidently it play on their interest to have gazillions tons of methane released on the athmosphere, since casually... Methane is a very strong greenhouse Gas.

DDT was banned because it worked... 3rd World populations that had been decimated by malaria & other diseases were returning strong.... PTB couldn't have that.

<snip>

Alexander King, president of the Club of Rome, wrote, "My own doubts came when DDT was introduced. In Guyana, within two years, it had almost eliminated malaria. So my chief quarrel with DDT,in hindsight, is that it has greatly added to the population problem." 25

In 1970 The National Academy of Sciences, in their book "Life Sciences," stated that, "In little more than two decades DDT has prevented 500 million deaths due to malaria."
