A soft lander on the Moon for $100 million. I doubt you could even pay the launch costs for that much, never mind the R&D involved in building the thing. And it will be funded by 'the Islamic world'. Good luck with that. |

Since this is GLP I will advance the notion that the Muslims are getting ready for 2012 too. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 980315Probably to NASA? So you doubt they are able to master four decades old technology? Yes I do. Other than Pakistan's threats toward India, they've shown no evidence of it yet. |

If I'm not mistaken Iran has launched a couple of comm satellites a while back so they seem to have got the basic hang of it. But who knows it might be just propaganda. |

If you prove to master putting payloads in orbit then you prove that you could use similar technology in a near future to put satellites in orbit, go to the moon or whatever. It is the "or whatever" that freaks some people out, feeling it is now time to bomb them back to stone age. |

If you can orbit a bomb you can make it land anywhere on earth you like. Simple as that. That's all a red herring anyway. They don't have to build a launch vehicle. For that part they just have to write the Russians a big cheque. They only have to build the probe and its descent engine. |

I guess the enlightened Western world will have a hard time in the coming decades to keep track of the technological advancement in potential enemy countries, making sure to put a firm stop to it whenever they reach a certain level of tech advancement enabling the potential construction of weapons that could pose a danger to the enlightened Western world. |
