Hi asshat. Are you aware the North had slaves? They did. Are you aware that Lincoln didn't free the slaves in the North when he freed the slaves in the South? Oh, you didn't? Thats because they don't teach you shit in high school. Read more books and go to college. |

Had the South been permitted to go in peace, as was the wish of the majority of Northern opinion makers before Fort Sumter according to historian Joseph Perkins, democracy would have continued to thrive in two nations. Moreover, the act of secession would have had exactly the effect the founding fathers expected it to have; it would have tempered the imperialistic proclivities of the central state. "The federal government would have been forced to moderate its high-tariff policies and to slow down or abandon its quest for empire. Commercial relationships with the South would have been continued and expanded. After a number of years, the same reasons that led the colonists to form a Union in the first place would likely have become more appealing to both sections, and the Union would probably have been reunited. "After that, knowing that secession was a real threat, the federal government would have stuck closer to its constitutional bearings." The 'Civil War' was not fought over slavery.. Quoting: Nikki_LaVeyIt's funny how many Americans don't really know their history. The Abolitionist movement in the United States had its roots in the seventeenth century. In 1775 the first anti-slavery society was established in Philadelphia, and the Pennysylvania legislature passed the first emancipation act in 1780, followed shortly thereafter by four other northeastern states. Slavery was banned in the Northwest Territory with the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. This act essentially divided the union into two belts, with a northern area that was free of slaves, and a southern belt where slavery remained legal. Here is your "yeppers!", hillbilly. Quoting: Nikki_LaVeyI was a "promise" to free the slaves only in states that seceded ... states like Maryland that was forced to stay in the union by Lincoln usurping the Constitution were not effected by said proclamation. The goal of the proclomation was to free all slaves. Just as in any political matter you can't piss off everyone at once or you will loose traction. The Proclamation provided the legal framework for the emancipation of nearly all four million slaves as the Union armies advanced, and committed the Union to ending slavery, which was a controversial decision even in the North. The emancipation proclomation worked because there are no slaves today and the world is a better place because of it. Now shut your pie hole, hillbilly! |

They had many factories but no one was buying because there was basically on war. The South had money because of "King Cotton" that was exported all over the world. To put people back to work the Northern states wanted to tax the Cotton growing states to help them out so here is where state rights started to come in to play. Slavery issue was brought up at the last minute. This is a very quick and short version of what started the war. Go and read more books and learn the real very complicated reason. And you sir , most definitely not a gentlemen. Southern Gentlemen do not cuss like that in front of ladies! |
