Mr. Sutherland, the man standing with one foot in GS, and the other on the burning Halliburton-BP oil rig, is...

Now, ironically, Sutherland’s mission impossible is to migrate marine flora and fauna, fisherman, and coastal residents out of harms way in this spreading international emergency.

ref - civil disobedience - mahatmas ghandi. Fear not take a country back with the same violence that is within our hearts in minds and act with passion to drive with justice and numbers. If one person dies surely the message shall spread and help others never give up under adversity and deliver information and understanding where the hearts and souls of few and many are filled with irrationalism so that they can be rational again.

McCallister said, “Everybody in Europe, where the standard practice is to raise the oil and collect it, is scratching their heads, and quite honestly laughing at what’s happening in the Gulf.” He added, “Everyone is looking at us and wondering why we’re allowing this to happen.”

Previously stated two months ago and will state again:

What really pisses me off is that BP KNOWS what it takes for proper containment and clean up. (see article reference above) They are forced/mandated to be at-the-ready in the UK for immediate response....or they (any of the majors) do not operate there.

In the UK (and possibly other countries in Europe), the major oil companies, by gov mandate, collectively hire and fund specialized spill response companies who are 1. strategically located based on drilling operations 2. funded for all equip and skilled labor (at the ready) 3. have detailed response plans in place....for containment and clean up.

The only difference here is our gov.

It's just adding salt to the wound that BP knows the proper procedures and is simply refusing to engage established best practice at our cost while our gov protects them.

GovS...that should be plural because the state and locals have been given stand down orders, BS and rep-tape and are seemingly doing fuck all in response as well.

It has been published that it was their intention all along to keep the oil below the surface.

Check this out

It is the consensus of this group that up to this point, use of dispersants and the effects of dispersing oil into the water column has generally been less environmentally harmful than allowing the oil to migrate on the surface into the sensitive wetlands and near shore coastal habitats

Continued dispersant use trades shoreline impacts for water column impacts. This increases the uncertainty of the fate of the oil, and potentially increases the oil sedimentation rate on the bottom.

Transfer risk from surface to subsurface, then worry about
habitat contamination if it comes ashore

Public perception is that the oil slick is dropped slightly into the water column, below surface, not that it is broken into small droplets.
