With great thinkers like this in charge, how can California fail?

well she has a point

the us is a consumer based economy

is 10% of consumers suddenly stop having money, they will be unable to spend

when they are unable to spend, less money goes to businesses

this in turn forces businesses to cut down on their labor costs, which means decreasing wages and/or firing employees

thus causing job losses

those fired employees will cut down their spending or stop spending all together if they have no money

which then would lead to businesses losing money or going bankrupt all together

and even more so many people would be defaulting on their loans, which would make banks eventually go bankrupt, which would force them to call their loans which in turns would bankrupt or severely dent businesses' cashflows

which means more people would get fired


and thus then the cycle repeats and continues

that's pretty much a deflationary spiral, and this means the economy would tank like it did during the great depression



of course the problem is if you do continue to spend like there is no tomorrow, then eventually the currency could potentially implode. At the very least, government debt would go way up


damned if you do, damned if you dont

So if Obamagov sent EVERYONE in the country a check for $1000 every week, the economy would be just BOOMING!
