The ground here is SOAKED and the rivers and floodways are FULL. There is no place for more water to go. The flood waters in the Rio Grande have already been channeled into the floodways in Texas. I'm sympathetic for the flood victims in Mexico, but this could be a disaster for us. It is big news, OP. It hasn't really gotten out there, yet. Folks not in the area don't know what we're talking about yet. Last Edited by weegie on 07/07/2010 12:39 AM |

As for the storm, they really don't think it will turn into a hurricane, it's falling apart Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1024983Most of the rain has been dumped, and the rivers are already swelled. Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1023648 Mexico 07/07/2010 01:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | traducción del español al inglés Dam put on alert NL, Coahuila, Tamaulipas and Texas In the town of Anahuac, Nuevo Leon, 18 000 people were evacuated to the risk that the Salado River to overflow. On the other hand, the release of water from a reservoir flooded and isolated left two communities Tamaulipas. La Jornada online Posted: 07/06/2010 8:37 Monterrey, NL. Heavy rains caused by Hurricane Alex in the north of the country last week left the limit storage levels in dams in the region, forcing the vent of more of them and the evacuation of nearby communities. Also, local authorities reported that the release Tamaulipas flows without notice left two of their communities under water. In Nuevo Leon, about 18 000 inhabitants of the town of Anahuac were evacuated from this morning to the risk that the Salado River to overflow through the opening of gates in the dam "Venustiano Carranza", Mayor Santos Garza Garcia. He said the storage limits on the reservoir forced to take precautionary measures in the city, 224 kilometers north of Monterrey. In Tamaulipas, on whose coast last week Alex came as a Category 2 hurricane, the mayor of Michael German, Servando López Moreno, reported that two of their communities (San Antonio de Reyna and Arcabuz) are completely flooded and cut off after the dam El Cuchillo in Nuevo Leon, Tamaulipas was vented to reservoirs. Miguel Lopez Moreno noted that German was not affected by the passing of Alex, but the lack of communication from the authorities of the National Water Commission (Conagua), who did not alert on the vent of the dams. He said the people of San Antonio de Reyna and Arcabuz in the border area, recorded total losses in homes, sorghum, team work, besides lack of electricity, telephony and services and supplies to survive. He noted that losses in these two communities are total, but ruled the death of people. He said that it requires the support of federal and state authorities because of continuing flooded, could be recorded several outbreaks. The Citizen Services indicated that the water level in Arcabuz and San Antonio de Reyna went over a meter and that to date has achieved a reduction, but are still flooded. He noted that "southern German Miguel, Pemex has facilities and they are in danger of a leak or contaminate the water passing through the San Juan River and in turn the dam" Marte R. Gomez "at the lack of maintenance, because the land flooded with Pemex can not give the appropriate maintenance." The overflow of the rivers San Fernando has caused flooding in the town of Mendez, Burgos and Curillo, and the first increase of the Conchos river also flooded subdivisions Swan, Fuentes and Paso Real de San Fernando, but it was reported that the river level began to decrease. In the city of Reynosa began to evacuate 4000 people and are at risk more than 30 000 living in the lower area of Matamoros by the spill from the dam The Knife, The Mars and R. White Gomez. Also, last night a tornado hit the Ciudad Mante, which caused the flooding of 20 colonies. Also in the town of Hidalgo, more than 20 rural boundaries are isolated because the bridge was rebuilt in the San Antonio River, which joins the town's Tamaseño the county seat. Meanwhile, the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC) warned on Tuesday about possible flooding in parts of southern Texas and northeastern Mexico after the release of water from the dam bi La Amistad. The body of Mexico and the United States, which regulates the geographic boundaries and water treaties between the two nations, said Monday that began to discharge water from the Amistad at a rate of 481 cubic meters per second, and that on Tuesday morning desfoque almost doubled to 991 cubic meters per second. According to a statement of the IBWC, the release of water is set based on the amount of rainfall and the amount of water in reserve. Authorities Val Verde County on the border with Mexico, ordered the mandatory evacuation of the Vega Verde subdivision, a neighborhood community of Del Rio, Texas, located at the side of the Rio Grande. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued on its side the flood warning for the counties of Val Verde, Webb and Maverick and the communities of Del Rio and Eagle Pass. The IBWC said it is monitoring the International Falcon Reservoir, downstream of the Rio Bravo, about the possibility of releasing water from the reservation, if necessary later this week. An overflow dam in Mexico affect the municipalities of Acuña and Piedras Negras, Coahuila and Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Vent 50% buffered growing water: Conagua For his part, Conagua, through the Rio Grande Basin Organization (OCRB) reported that the controlled venting of the dams of Nuevo Leon and Tamaulipas cushioned growing 50 percent of water in rivers caused by Álex these entities. In a statement, stressed that controlling the venting of water from dams Las Blancas, Cerro Prieto and the knife into the rivers Santa Catarina, San Fernando and Bravo could prevent large spills that generate submit flooding in nearby communities. He indicated that the optimal operation of the dam rompepicos Corral de Palma, located in the upstream channel of the Rio Santa Catarina, allowed only pass through it two thousand 500 cubic meters per second. He stressed that in the absence of this infrastructure, the growing would exceed five thousand cubic meters per second, generating a major catastrophe as the destruction of the main avenues of the Monterrey metropolitan area, such as Constitution and Morones Prieto, and serious losses by flooding. Added to this, and the early operation of the El Cuchillo dam, which is vented, is cushioned at least 50 percent of the volume of water that moved through the San Juan River to reach the dam Marte R. Gomez. |
