My screen is on the fritz and I can only see 3/4 of my screen. If someone can tell me how to take a screen shot I can post it and you'll see what I'm talking about. Quoting: EMPIRE CHRONICLESAnyways my mouse looks as if it can go to the portion of the screen I can't see. I have to shrink my browser so I can scroll the screen. I've tried to restore to an earlier time but thats not working. It won't restore. HELP!!!!!!!!!!! hit the print screen key for a screenshot, it copies it to the clipboard so you have to paste it to a blank pic in paint, then save. |

Hook up your laptop to an external monitor and see if that video looks normal. If it does, you need a new LCD panel. |

Quoting: EMPIRE CHRONICLESAs I said, based on what you're saying, it's likely either the bottom backlight, or the inverter which powers it. Did you do the flashlight test? Anyhow, at this point that's irrelevant, because we know it's a physical problem. The power of Linux COMPELS you! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 822427About 10 minutes ago. This has been going on for the past 3 days. Have you installed anything new on your computer? Have you gone to any new sites within that time? I down loaded a program called icall and then removed it because I couldn't use it. |

In the part that is blank? or only in the pic. IF its in the pic then the problem is with the screen. do you have a warranty on it? If you have a photobucket or something similar you can upload it and post the link here. |

Ok, that's a bit different! =-) In that case, it's not uncommon with Acers for the LCD ribbon cable to work itself partially out of it's connector on the motherboard. Look up the disassembly for your particular model and check that the ribbon cable is neither frayed nor unseated. In the meantime, you can use it with an external monitor, as suggested here by others. If the cable is fine, then it's a transistor issue, and you will need to replace the whole LCD. What he's saying is the print screen captures the full desktop image, even the portion not being displayed properly by the panel. This is a bad LCD panel. Hook the thing up to an external monitor and end the mystery. |

Quoting: EggRollI know what he's saying, hence it is neither a driver nor video card issue, and with the image at the bottom of the screen whited out with grey / white compression, ALSO not inverter or backlight. Hence, as I said, either he's got a partially unseated cable, or a bad LCD. Either is equally likely, as I encounter both regularly when doing warranty repairs on Acers. I'm sorry that wasn't clear for you. The power of Linux COMPELS you! |

I'm sorry that wasn't clear for you. I want to thank everyone for the advice. I will just use an external moniter until after the General Redemption at lockerz.com. Then I'll figure out how to properly take this apart to check the ribbon to the lcd. Thank you all for helping me. Thats why I like this site. You Rock!! |
