Save yourself the cash and watch through other people's telescopes live.

Thats cool BUT there is nothing like packing up the car and traveling to a dark spot and seeing it for real!

I went to Congaree National Park last night and its was sweet!
The skies were nice and transparent and the weather was warm and dry.

Good gracious the lanes on the milky way were clear as a bell to the naked eye.

My 10" dob performed magnificently as the milky way looked like a billion tiny diamonds!

I saw globs and dobs and shit I have no idea what it was!

A great time indeed!

Get a scope and get to dark skies and be AMAZED!

If you are new to viewing I would vote for binoculars as a first choice...compact, light and ready at a moments notice.
after you have mastered those then move on to a scope.
just remember to look for a pair that are compatible with a tripod(has a tripod mounting hole) also get a tripod.
I've got 3 scopes and 2 pair of binocs, I use the binocs almost everyday and only bring out a scope if I spot something interesting in the binocs.
hope this helps and "clear skies to you"

I agree, you end up getting off your arse and going to dark sky places, often camping overnight with all the other interesting things that go with that.
