Israel to indict soldier over Gaza

An Israeli soldier who fought in the country's war on Gaza last year is to be prosecuted for the manslaughter of two Palestinian women, the military has said.

The move, which is the first prosecution of an Israeli soldier over the deaths of civilians during the 22-day war, was one of several disciplinary steps announced by the army following an internal investigation.

"The military advocate general has decided to indict a number of officers and soldiers for their conduct during the operation," an army statement said on Tuesday.

In addition to the soldier, the military said a battalion commander was disciplined for allowing his troops to use a Palestinian civilian as a human shield.

Soldiers sent the man toward a house where Palestinian fighters were holed up to persuade them to come out, a violation of army regulations, the announcement said.

The military said that it had disciplined another officer who ordered an airstrike near a mosque in Beit Lahiya, an attack that killed at least 15 civilians and wounded 40.

New investigation

The military prosecutor also ordered a new investigation into the deaths of two dozen members of a family who were ordered by troops into a building that was shelled later in the fighting.

Around 100 members of the Samouni family were in their home in Zaitun when it came under Israeli bombing, killing 26 of them.

However, the military also said it was dismissing dozens of other incidents, many of which were raised in the UN Goldstone report on alleged war crimes during the conflict, the AFP news agency reported.

Israel's war on Gaza, which began at the end of 2008, killed around 1,400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis.

The announcement of the indictment against the soldier came hours ahead of a meeting between Binyamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, and Barack Obama, the US president, at the White House.

"There are many questions that arise from this indictment - not least why it's taken about two years to investigate this and bring these charges to the soldiers involved."

The army said Palestinian witnesses and dozens of soldiers had been questioned during its internal investigation, but it had "found gaps between the testimonies given by the soldiers and those given by Palestinians".

"This fact made it impossible to make a criminal connection between the described incident according to Palestinian testimonies and to that described by the soldiers," it said.

However, the decision to charge the soldier with manslaughter was "based on evidence that the soldier, who was serving as a designated marksman, deliberately targeted an individual walking with a group of people waving a white flag without being ordered or authorised to do so," the army said.

dennis, you are correct. Wait until the 3rd Solar Eclipse on Av 1 (our July 11th this year) occurs. Solar Eclipses are a warning to the Gentile nations.

God has warned the world on Av 1, 2008, Av 1, 2009, and now 3rd and final warning.

July is going to be interesting on through the fall it will get worse as God reveals who is really in control of this planet and it's not man.

Displaying all 4 posts.Meshawn Not sure if everyone is aware of this fact, but there are three solar eclipses which are occurring three years in a row on the 1st day of the Jewish month of Av. The first two occurred Av 1, 2008 (which was the Gregorian calendar date of July 31) and Av 1, 2009 (which was the Gregorian calendar date of July 22). The 3rd one will occur again on Av 1 of this year, 2010 (which will be the Gregorian calendar date of July 11).

This is significant because never before have there been three solar eclipses three years in a row on the same calendar date. Of note is that God chose the same JEWISH calendar date to have these eclipses fall on. Also of note is that Av 1 is the first day of the nine-day period of mourning that ends on the Ninth of Av (Tisha B’Av) – the day that the first and second Jewish temples were destroyed, although hundreds of years apart. Other catastrophes befell the Jewish people on the Ninth of Av, as well.

So, what could be the significance of having three solar eclipses fall on the exact same Jewish calendar date three years in a row? Any thoughts?

Marc A Lunar Tetrad is a sequence of 4 total lunar eclipses falling in an unbroken sequence. It is extremely rare. A total lunar eclipse is known as a ‘blood moon’ because of its deep red color. You had a tetrach of lunar eclipses 1492, 1493 and 1494 appearing on God's Holy days

There was a total solar eclipse in 2nd November 1491 falling near Kislev.

So what happened in 1492. Well good and bad. The good is that Christopher Columbus, a Jewish convert to Christianity, set out and discovered the new world of the Americas. What followed were uninmaginable torture and horror at the hands of the Inquisition as up to 9 million Christians were tortured and killed from trumped-up charges of heresy to witchcraft throughout Europe (almost equal to the 9 million Christians who were murdered in the former Christian Byzantine Empire which was conquered by the Muslims by 1453).

The Muslims started the siege led by Mehmed II on Passover, and finally overan the city as a blood red moon lunar eclipse rose on May 22 1453 on the Jewish sacred day of Savuot (known to Christians as Pentacost). The fall of Constantinople signalled the end of Christianity as the majority religion in the Middle East, as the whole region converted to Islam becomming known as the Ottoman Empire.

World War I was declared on Tisha B'Av 1914. There was a total Solar Eclipse in October 17th the previous year in 1913 on Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles).
This followed another total solar eclipse passing through Europe on the 21st of August 1914 when the war was in full swing, just one day before Rosh Chodesh Elul. World War I was the precursor and catalyst to World War II.

Meshawn Thanks for posting this information, Marc.

It's really awesome how God chooses Jewish feast days on which to place these eclipses. I believe it's to get the world's attention -- to let them know that He has not forgotten the nation of Israel.

Of interest, there is another set of upcoming consecutive total lunar eclipses (tetrads) which will occur on Passover and the Feast of Tabernacles two years in a row, just as they did in 1949-50 and 1967-68. As you listed above, very significant events happened in Israel during these times. Israel became a nation (1948) and Jerusalem came under Jewish control once again (1967). Here's the next set of 4 lunar eclipses that will happen -- very soon, I might add. I wonder what significant event will happen then? As you also mentioned, Marc, lunar eclipses are known as "blood moons." Definitely something to think about, considering we are more than likely living in the end times.

For hundreds of years no one knew how the prophecy to regather Israel from the countries of the world.....where they had been scattered....could ever be fulfilled. However this was fulfilled. No nation once destroyed has ever become a nation again in its original lands.

Israel as a nation......although back in it's land.....is still under punishment from God as can be found in the 70 weeks prophecy. Daniel was interceding for Israel in prayer during their captivity during the year 538 B.C. God had sent them into captivity for repeated acts of rebellion, worshiping pagan Gods, sending their children through the fire, etc.

Daniel was asking forgiveness for Israel and also wanted to know how long God would hide His face from them.

The 70 weeks prophecy was given as an answer......and included the time for "reconciliation of iniquity."

Prophecy states also that in the end times Jerusalem will be trampled over by the Gentiles. The anti-christ himself will be their and stop the daily sacrifice,,,,,,,and set up the abomination of desolation in the Holy place.

Satan will try to destroy all the Jews....probably in an effort to make God's promise to Abraham void. He has persecuted the Jews through various empires throughout history.

In the end times, Satan and his angels will be kicked out of heaven full of wrath. He will go after the Jews first.....but God will supernaturally protect a remnant in the wilderness. Satan will then go after the "offspring".....the Gentile Christians who have been grafted into the natural branch.
