Well, apparently, Jesse Jackson was getting lonely. He has determined that when Dan Gilbert, the owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, wrote an open letter berating LeBron James for the manner in which he decided to leave his home town team for the Miami Heat, that these were the actions of someone with a slave master mentality. Gilbert, in his letter written soon after James had left the team, had claimed that the star player had quit on the team during some of the playoff games this season. He also referred to James as narcissistic. II don’t know if that’s right or not; I do know that LeBron made a tactical decision to humiliate his hometown for his own self-aggrandizement. He was a free agent. He could choose to go anywhere he wanted. Exactly what was the point of doing a one hour special to release his decision, especially without telling Cleveland first that he wasn’t going to return there? So Gilbert went over the top in his anger. So what? He’s just watched his investment go down the tubes, and at the same time seen people in Cleveland played like chumps, and he’s supposed to shrug it off? But no, in remarks to the Associated Press, Reverend Jackson called Gilbert’s statement ‘mean, arrogant, and presumptuous.’ His interpretation of Gilbert’s statement was that Gilbert felt that he was James’ owner, not the owner of the Cavs. He wrote that Gilbert thinks of LeBron as a runaway slave, and that Gilbert’s comments reveal a slave master’s mentality. Seriously. I’ve been a Pirates fan all of my life. How many free agents do you think they’ve lost in the last twenty years? But I don’t remember any of them going out of their way to humiliate the team, the owner, or the city. ..... It Only Hurts If You Care... |
