Please send me some strength so i can stop. Quoting: cough cough 1035384Strength sent, but I am a smoker too so I am not sure if my strength is valid as I sent you the strength to carry on smoking. No seriously though, good luck. I have been smoking for around 15 years now and I would find it difficult. However, I do tend to smoke a lot less at home than I do at work so if I wanted to stop I would focus on this point and period and try and expand it. Maybe you should look at where u smoke less and try and focus that on that area and then expand it. |

I managed to quit using them after smoking for 13 years. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1035788They are banned in Australia, so OP you're going to have to give yourself the power and will to stop. Think that when you put out your next cigarette, you've stopped smoking! Think of what it's like when you've put that butt in the ashtray and go from there to making it a constant thought and action that you don't smoke. Just keep busy and get back the vitamins you've lost. |

Though I am now smoking again, I did once quit for a year. What worked for me was using a patch and going on a vacation. Sounds strange to use a vacation to quit, but it's the only thing that worked for me. I was busy seeing the sights and far away from my triggers. Being relaxed yet busy and in a new place with a different routine made it easy. The patch definitely helped too. Another thing that helps is sucking on cinnamon sticks. (Just don't chew them.) You may want to check out subliminal CDs as well. Best of luck to you. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 779693 United States 07/14/2010 06:14 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I can tell you what worked for my dad. He had a catastrophic stroke that left him paralyzed on one side of his body and unable to get outside to smoke. No one else in the family would tolerate the filthy things in the house. His doctor told him if he kept smoking, the next stroke would kill him. He's sort of up and around now and chews a lot of gum, but hasn't returned to smoking for the past six months. He'd been smoking for almost 60 years. I have a friend who switched to those e-cigarette things. They still have nicotine, but not the other 200+ toxins in cigarettes, and she actually saves about $40 per month. She smoked one pack a day before, so I have no idea how that translates. You have to stop if you want to live. Good luck. |

I been quit for 6 years and I enjoyed the heck of out it. 2 packs a day, everyday. but I also knew it would most likely kill me in the end, so it came down to will power. I should take my own advise but I haven't been. <sigh> It is found just about everywhere and is free. Catnip is also smokable and your cat will probably love you. If you don't know how to roll get a pipe or just remind yourself that it is EASY to quit..I've done it several times in the past easily. Currently I am paying almost $6.00 per day for rolling tobacco go figure..lol |
KonaCoffee User ID: 913153 United States 07/14/2010 06:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's really too bad if Ecigs are banned in Australia. Ive been quit over two months now off cigs. I had a chronic cough that kept me up nights, so my sleep was affected. The cough is gone, and I only vape nicotine in the morning with coffee, and just vape plain the rest of the day. I don't smell like tobacco, and even get away with vaping in certain public places indoors, as well as my own home. It may not be as good as completely quitting it all, but in my opinion, I feel it's helped me tremendously in so many other ways, that it's better than the smoking alternative. I wish you luck in whatever method you decide. Being sick of them is the first step to getting them the hell out of your life. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1021093 United Kingdom 07/14/2010 06:41 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Hey OP, I've been a smoker for over 10 years, and a heavy one. In the last month I've managed to cut down my intake of cigarettes by 90% ( didnt even have a cigarette yesterday ) in a strangely enjoyable way - I'm using an electronic cigarette. This is the way I've figured it - I'm still getting my nicotine fix but minus all the thousands of chemicals in normal tobacco. Most importantly as a smoker however, is it kills my craving, and secondarily - it actually tastes better than a normal cigarette - I was on "red bull" for ages ( fooking lovely ) but at the moment I'm on Apple & Cinnamon Pie, with a touch of Vanilla. Its got to the point that when I smoke my usual dirty fags, they taste just that - like sucking a cars tailpipe. To be fair, I had a false start with them - I got a 510 ( do some research ) initially, but being a heavy smoker, the batteries didnt last long enough, and all the fiddling and replacing carts didnt inspire enough confidence in me that you get when you stick a fag to your lips and light one up, knowing the worst tht can happen is that it'll just go out. So I would recommend you to explore some of the more hardcore options in the e-cig arsenal. Currently I'm on a Totally Wicked Screwdriver MkII. It rocks, and from the first day I got it, it was producing a much better vape, and most importantly, the battery ( rechargeable & easy to stock up on spares ) lasts for several hours on end. I can take it out in the evening to the pub for a night out and vape throught the whole evening no probs. Add that to the other benefits - can smoke at work in the toilets without setting off fire alarms, dont smell like a chimney, can kiss someone without that paranoia of thinking I'm going to taste horrible to someone, and the pleasure of some really sweet satisfying flavours has made my transition a hands down no brainer. As I say, still smoking the odd ciggy once every day to two days and thats been the product of barely trying to stop using them. Its got to the point now where providing I've remembered to take my e-cig out with me, I forget or dont worry about not having my normal tobacco. Hope this helps, check out Totally Wicked E-liquid which is where I got my screwdriver. Definitely go for one of the higher power devices...the smaller ones just dont have the punch IMHO. Peace |
