Windows XP, The Incredible Immortal Operating System!
I love Windows XP. A lot. Iíve been a user since day one, and three of the four computers in my home are still running it beautifully. The fourth is a Mac. So it comes as delightful news to me to hear that Microsoft is again extending downgrade rights to XP, until Ė get this - the end of Windows 7ís life cycle.

This means, simply put, that Windows XP will be alive and well in 2020.

Re: Windows XP, The Incredible Immortal Operating System!
I was on dialup for a long time and didn't do any updates after Service Pack 3.

Now I have DSL and would go take whatever security updates they have (I turned off automatic updates long ago).

Can anyone tell me if it's true that they will "Update it to death"? I hestitated to take the SP3 but it was when some big nasty viruses were going around so I did do that one.

Anyway I could go do all the updates much more easily now that I have a higher speed connection, should I take them all?

Is there any downside to taking all the updates they offer? I was only taking the 'critical security' ones when I was picking and choosing.

There is a whole community of people still running VMS too....

Re: Windows XP, The Incredible Immortal Operating System!
My boyfriend's computer died last year, it was running Windows 98. He was talking to a techie friend of his about the possibility of reviving it, and was sheepish about admitting that it was Windows 98.

His tech friend said when he builds his own computers, he installs Windows 98 on them.

My boyfriend got a new computer with Vista and has had a lot of problems with it - dammit.

Sure if we want to spend hours typing shit in and configuring shit and not being able to find drivers, sure.
Oh yeah and then we have to run emulators to run applications we need that are only made for Windows.
