Duh most definetly hail. Take a look at an African map. [link to www.sitesatlas.com] The frigging equator passes through the southern tip of Somalia. If the earth was experiencing snowstorms a few degrees from the equator I would have to say we are in the middle of a god dam ice age, but do you see six, ten, eight, eighty feet of snow out your window? No and if you lived in most parts of the USA thats what you would have to see out your window before it ever snows at or near the equator. Now hail is much more believable. And probably to the uneducated Somalis they thougth white ice oh snow. Instead they witnessed the result of incredible rain storm updrafts producing hail from lifting rain up to the stratoshere and cycling it many times to freeze and refreeze and then be deposited Oh so close to OUR equator.
