Larry McDonald must have hit a nerve with Tom Braden. Tom Braden is not only involved with the CFR, he also played a role in a CIA operation that recruited former Soviet labor unionist to defect through 1951-54. Here's where it gets interesting. Braden funneled CIA money into this operation to Irving Brown, a unionist that worked at "dismantling" Soviet power across the world. Sounds like a nice guy, huh? Well, in 1962, with the help of Jay Lovestone, the former head of the Communist Party of America in 1922, formed the American Institute for Free Labor Development (AIFLD), a front organization for the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO). The AIFLD would go into Latin countries and attempt to take control of their labor unions. So, Braden recruited Soviet unionists, which is absurd, and formed an institute that would subvert foreign countries with the unofficial stamp of approval from the KGB. It's not shocking at all that McDonald died.


A New York Times article from 1988 discusses why there were delays in the NBC presentation of Korean Airlines Flight 007, and raises the question as to why it took 5 years to publish. There's an interesting quote from this article that I think is worth mentioning.

"The script [of the NBC show] drew upon interviews with Mrs. Moore and her daughter, Charlotte, along with independent research conducted by the writers. Among their consultants were Robert Allardyce, a former T.W.A. pilot and navigator, and John Keppel, a retired foreign-service officer. Both of them believe, based on their interpretation of radar tapes, flight patterns and navigational equipment aboard the aircraft, that the plane deliberately invaded Soviet airspace. Mr. Keppel, who was working in the State Department at the time of the U-2 reconnaissance flight over Russia in 1960, says, ''I sat in on meetings recommending the cover story that it was a weather plane, so I've had experience with people in Government not telling the truth.''

Mr. Hill declares that while he did not want to make a shrill piece of agitprop, he did want to raise strong criticisms of the American Government's role in the affair. ''There were so many questions left unanswered,'' Mr. Hill says, ''and yet there has never been a thorough investigation. There was the stench of a cover-up. We are not saying that 007 was a spy plane, as some people have charged. We are saying there is a danger of creating a secret government in this country.''

What's telling about this article is the lack of mention for Larry McDonald. One would think it would be important to mention a Congressman being killed aboard flight 007 when talking about conspiracies. Especially if he was on television talking about a global communist cabal.

It would seem so. But remember that the NYT never met a communist they didn't like, and sometimes its better to let sleeping dogs lie. I think they would like it a lot if people forgot about McDonald entirely.
