Anonymous Coward User ID: 961432 United States 07/26/2010 11:51 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What does a debtor prison really do? I mean it takes food, maintenance, staff it is really just a black hole. Now a work camp on the other hand at least offers some profitability. But, the global corporations already have slave labor in China and India, why would they readjust their entire structure for debtors prisons. This is most likely a fear tactic to dissuade people from charging up their credit cards before they declare bankruptcy. |

There are quite a few articles on GLP where people are already being imprisoned for not paying debt so i doubt its a fear tactic. It just another way to rape the American people of what they have left. Those living off the government teat are safe. |

Quoting: WeAreWatchingYouLook closer, it's a fear tactic. Those articles here are always about people that didn't show up to the court hearing and let that infraction go to warrant, then were taken to jail on that warrant. Not for the debt. 100% of the cases, not most of them, but all of them. Those stories are picked up from time and again and circulate even in the MSM, then posted at sites like this. 100% of the time, the person fails to show up to court for their hearing, gets a warrant, then spends a couple days in jail until their next hearing. It's nothing but fear mongering and people who don't understand that if you get a notification to go to court, you must show up. If you don't show up, regardless if it's a traffic ticket, or a small claim against you for debt, you will have a warrant issued for your arrest. The cops can either come and get you, but they probably won't, or they will wait till you get pulled over for something unrelated like speeding, then haul you in on the failure to appear warrant. Believe me, I've had it happen to me several times personally, I'm speaking from experience as well as letting you know, they literally cannot take you to jail simply for being in debt at the moment. Not showing up to court for your trial however, they most def. will. |
