The spiritual meaning of POPEYE

The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
Popeye is one of my favorite cartoons. However, several questions have arisen over the years that have disturbed me. They are:

Does anyone here know what the spiritual meaning of the conflict between Popeye and Brutus?

Why does Brutus change his name to Bluto?

Why are Popeye´s arms swollen?

Is Sweet Pea a boy or a girl? And, whose the father?

Why are Popeye and Brutus so attracted to the twig, Olive? Does being on a ship so long warp your vision?

Why is Wimpy always hanging around?

Re: The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
hmmm. don´t know about that...! But did you ever see one of the more modern episodes where the three of them are all working out in a gym when the all too familiar fueding begins between Bluto and Popeye....except this time, OLIVE steps in, GRABS THE SPINACH away from Popeye, instead SHE downs it....grows strong and says, "I´m sick of you two fighting all the time!!!´ And kicks both of their asses and throws them out of the gym...!! It was hysterical >>>>! Did you catch that one...?

Re: The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
I missed that one BlueDolphin.

I will attempt to explain, though this is based on my own imagination.

"Does anyone here know what the spiritual meaning of the conflict between Popeye and Brutus?"

It´s more of an analogy for survival, dominance, and social status. Primitive creatures quarrel over food when it is scarce. Brutus is the more dominant creature who steals the meatprize (Olive Oyl)from Popeye. The spinach is symbolic for methamphetamines, which gives Popeye the power to steal Olive back.

"Why does Brutus change his name to Bluto?"

It´s some kind of cartoon time/space warp doppelganger complex.

"Why are Popeye´s arms swollen?"

He´s a bowling enthusiast.

"Is Sweet Pea a boy or a girl? And, whose the father?"

He´s a gay love child of Popeye and Olive Oyl.

"Why are Popeye and Brutus so attracted to the twig, Olive?"

To them, she is just a piece of meat. Whoever owns the meat comes out victorious. They are only attracted to their own pride of ownership.

"Does being on a ship so long warp your vision?"

No.

"Why is Wimpy always hanging around?"

For protection.

I tried.

Re: The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
I have figured out why Popeye always says

"I am what I am"

That is the name of God that was given to Moses when he spoke to the burning bush.

EXODUS
3:13 And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them?
3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
3:15 And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.

Re: The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
>Does anyone here know what the spiritual meaning of the conflict between Popeye and Brutus?

It´s the conflict of rightousness (Popeye) vs brute strength. It´s the conflict of earnestness vs deception.

>Why does Brutus change his name to Bluto?

This a reference to the Saturnalian nature of Brutus; he´s a cold-hearted bastard who eats children. Unfortunately women tend to have a thing for these swarthy bastards.

>Why are Popeye´s arms swollen?

Popeye´s name and swollen forearms stem from the same condition: Olive deficiency. The woman not the food. Popeye´s eyesight and forearm musculature are the unfortunate result of compulsive masturbation. It all goes back to Brutus´ magical hold on Olive, which prevents her from servicing Popeye.

>Is Sweet Pea a boy or a girl? And, whose the father?

Sweet Pea is Brutus´ bastard child. Brutus would kill it or even eat it, because he sees the child as competition for Olive´s attention.

>Why are Popeye and Brutus so attracted to the twig, Olive?

Olive is the prize, her chromosome allele, like many mediterranean chicks, is the key to unlocking the 6th chakra, and the psychic powers it holds.

>Why is Wimpy always hanging around?

Wimpy, friend of Popeye, unlines the heros condition by mirroring it. Wimpy and Popeye are invalids, but Popeye takes the road of grace by eating spinach, food that imparts strength and wisdom, whereas Wimpy eats hamburgers and continues to dwell in the spiritually fallen state of being.

Re: The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
The two archetypal sailors.

Popeye is the mercurial Christ figure, emphasized the giant anchor tatoo on his arm. Popeye is the carpenter.

Brutus is the walrus.

Both eat oysters, but Brutus gets more seafood then the carpenter. Both are fishers of men, in a way, but it might be more correct to say they´re looking for mermaids.

Re: The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
> Does anyone here know what the spiritual
> meaning of the conflict between Popeye
> and Brutus?

Popeye represents a naturalistic philosophical school wherein certain entities and concepts have a kind of "built-in" affinity for each other. Popeye and Olive Oyl are a natural match for each other. Brutus represents a non-deterministic philosophy, which posits that there are no such natural affinities, but rather an individual´s will is the strongest determinate of interactions. Hence, he feels as if he wants it bad enough, he can make Olive Oyl love him, and they can become a happy couple.

I´m pretty sure Bluto was the first name and later changed it to Brutus. I think Sweetpea was a boy and was Olive´s nephew.flower

I can´t believe your interpretation of Popeye is so trivial. Brutus just wants a piece of ass, he doesn´t care about love.

Re: The spiritual meaning of POPEYE
´A loaf of bread", the Walrus said,
´Is what we chiefly need:
Pepper and vinegar besides
Are very good indeed-
Now, if you´re ready, Oysters dear,
We can begin to feed.´

´But not on us! the Oysters cried,
Turning a little blue.
´After such kindness, that would be
A dismal thing to do!´
´The night is fine,´ the Walrus said.
´Do you admire the view?

´It was so nice of you to come!
And you are very nice!´
The Carpenter said nothing but
´Cut us another slice.
I wish you were not quite so deaf-
I´ve had to ask you twice!´

I think the spinach comes into it because there was a mix-up with the iron content and it was put down as 10.0mg instead of 1.0mg.

It has the same iron as cabbage et al.
