zombieintraining (OP) User ID: 979547 United States 08/16/2010 02:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Good luck! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1069795Thanks! We've been doing a 'summer study program' for the last 3 weeks. He went from not knowing any multiplication tables, to memorizing them all up to 8x9! I also have him read a chapter from a library book, and then write a summary for the chapter, daily. His attitude towards all of this has been really good, just 3 'off' days in 3 weeks. This is week for of summer study, and then next Monday the real classes start. He's looking forward to it, he got really excited when his curriculum arrived last week, asking "oh when do we start?". |

It's not for everyone but should always be an option. Yes. Thank goodness it is still legal in all 50 states, even though some states make it a lot harder than others (New York is the worst, it seems) My state has moderate regulations, which entail a one-time letter of intent to the schoolboard, the mantainence of a portfolio of my son's work, and a yearly assessment (I have 4 methods to choose from). Quoting: zombieintrainingI've got his homeschool area all set up. He's got his own desk and bookshelves, which only he uses, and they're set up away from any distractions in he house. I purchased his curriculum, and have all the texts, workbooks and manipulatives ready to go. The curriculum came with a general lesson plan, and I've further broken that down and planned everything for the first two weeks of class. Who the hell says you need a degree for this? LOL. All you need is time, patience and love, an Internet connection and a library card. The system would rather you turn your children over to uncaring 'caregivers' for 6-8 hrs a day. Well schools in my area are so bad, they're basically just a place to warehouse children. Well, not my family, not anymore. We are exercising our legal right to educate our child as WE see fit, and he's already flourishing. Good luck with it! We're starting with our first year of homeschooling this year too. Remember there are a lot of options out there for curricula, so if something isn't "working" in your program, you can try another to see if it fits your child better. Also, be sure to check out the various homeschool forums for great advice! Such as homeschoolspot, well-trained mind and various others. Just google homeschool forums and a bunch will come up. They give GREAT advice on curricula and everything else. And don't sweat the bad days, when you have them. |

I don't know if we can do everything, but we'll see what the kids like. (I'm not the OP, just felt like answering that) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1070044Yes. He is in a boy's choir since last year, their new season starts up at the end of the month, and they have rehearsals 2x a week. I'm looking into the different types of classes at the local communtiy center. I'm also looking into a homeschool support group that holds weekly co-op classes, field trips, spelling bees, and much more. I sent the HS group an email today. |

Who says we can't teach them how to read and write, multiply and divide? With all the resources available to parents with an Internet connection and a library card, the sky is the limit. |

Cactus Mark User ID: 1069995 United States 08/16/2010 03:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Good, good, and good for you and the kid. True story #1: I home-schooled my daughter from age 12 to 16. You can get a degree on-line (as she did) from an accredited degree granting authority by taking what is basically a GED exam. True story #2: I work at the college so I get to go to school at a seriously discounted price. I tried going "back to school" but never made it past the political indoctrination. My first THREE writing assignments were supposed to be criticism of the Bush administration's strategy in Iraq. Sorry, homey don't play that. |

Taking 2 weeks off from homeschooling next month for our religious festivals. vaccinefreehealth blogspot com The risk far outweighs any benefit as the risk will vary from child to child. facebook.com/graphixyourway |
