Anonymous Coward User ID: 1072382 Canada 08/20/2010 09:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm an American who moved to Nova Scotia 8 years ago, and I think Canada rocks. The US is different, not bad, just different. I think Americans are friendlier, but Canadians are more polite, if that makes any sense. Americans will tell you everything about themselves the first time you meet them, while Canadians are very reserved, and you don't really get to know them for a long time. There is definitely a style difference. I don't think it's Canada bashing as much as a pose. Honestly, if push came to shove, Americans would help Canadians in a heartbeat. You gotta take what most Americans say with a grain of salt. For example, I grew up hearing Americans in my neighborhood bashing hispanics and blacks and asians in conversation, and back then I thought they were really racist. Then when I got older, I realized some of those same people were now married to hispanics, asians or blacks, or had adopted kids from those ethnicities. The American workplace is filled with people of all races, and I dare say there's more acceptance of "visible minorities" in the US than in Canada. Same with our elections...really, given what most people think of Americans, would anyone have thought 8 years ago that Americans would have elected as President a black man with a muslim last name, born to an unwed mother no less? So in other words, I think most Americans are mostly bark and grandstanding. If they make a joke about Canada, they do the same about Texas or Mississippi, but I don't think they really mean it. I don't think there's any doubt in most people's minds that Canada is like our brother. I was living in Dallas before I came back, and I only heard people say nice things about Canada. When I said I was headed up, they seemed definitely intrigued and even jealous of the fact I was headed somewhere without 100 degree weather, and where people were nice. Just one POV. |

I want my 90's and humidity in the summer, damn it." Actually, this is a misconception. We moved to Canada from Danbury CT, and I can tell you that the weather in NS is almost identical to Danbury CT, for 10+ months out of the year. In fact, it is actually far colder in upstate New York and in Chicago, than in Nova Scotia. I hear BC is even warmer If you're an American from the South, like South Carolina or Florida, then yes, Canada is definitely colder But if you're from Pennsylvania up to Maine, I bet your winters are no warmer than mine, and my summers are definitely better and less humid than yours. Last year, I spent the winter in Dallas TX, and I was shocked that on quite a few days, it was 20 in Dallas, when it was only 36 in Middleton NS. Ugh. Turns out Dallas has weather that swings from 105 in the summer to 20 in the winter, while my town goes from 30s in the winter to 86 in the summer. I'll take my town in Canada, ty "Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.” ~Marcus Aurelius |
