BREAKING: Now They Tell Us: Experts Say Housing Is A Lousy Investment And Always Will Be
Well, the experts are weighing in again. And, once again, they agree: Housing is a lousy investment. And it always will be.

At least that's what they're telling the New York Times:

“There is no iron law that real estate must appreciate,” said Stan Humphries, chief economist for the real estate site Zillow. “All those theories advanced during the boom about why housing is special — that more people are choosing to spend more on housing, that more people are moving to the coasts, that we were running out of usable land — didn’t hold up.”

Instead, Mr. Humphries and other economists say, housing values will only keep up with inflation. A home will return the money an owner puts in each month, but will not multiply the investment.

But wait. Just a few years ago, weren't the experts saying that housing was always a great investment? That house prices would always go up?

Yes, they were

At this point it might as well be information about global warming.

All information is provided from one partisan side or the other, there is not unbiased people talking about it.

I was going to buy this year and have the 20% down saved and everything but im not feeling it...

The only time to make money off of real estate is when the bubble is blowing. Timing is everything. Our eCONomy is so overleveraged now RE will be a horrible investment for 20-30 years. A house is just a roof over your head when the bubble daze are gone.

What i would be expecting to pay per month in 15+ years...

If i owned and only had to worry about taxes that should be a percentage less.

Ya, private property to be a thing of the past.

The global monopoly owns your ass.

Now get in line and shut up, comrade.

Seriously, though, it is more reactionary bullshit.

In four years when interest rates spike above 10 percent, we'll see what the media says.

Fuck the corporate whores.

but...but...but...isn't that supposed to be the great American dream?

Truth is that home ownership has been shoved down our throats as the mark of a successful citizen, while in reality it makes you a target ripe for manipulation. As long as you own a home you are forced to comply with the system or risk losing it all.

Our home has depreciated in value over 40,000 in the last 5 years. Sucks...we didn't buy it over-leveraged....we just think of it as a roof over our heads. By the time we are ready to sell it will probably lose more value. Of course that is if we can find anyone to buy it...eventually. Home sales are really bad in our area. Basically the buyers just steal them.
