Landslides Block Yellowstone Highway

A series of huge landslides has blocked the scenic Beartooth Highway, a major tourist magnet that winds through a high mountain pass into Yellowstone National Park, likely closing it all summer.

Construction crews plowed a path around the lowest mud and rock slide south of Red Lodge on Tuesday and prepared to attack the next slide in the series, but that work only serves to clear a route for contractors who will have to make millions of dollars in repairs.

Tuesday was the second day of moving the highly unstable debris by crews from JTL Group. “We know it’s going to slide. We’ll try and control it,” said company representative Jay Steinmasel.

The mountainside highway is closed part of the year by snow and typically opens during the Memorial Day weekend, but on May 19-20 the slides and washouts damaged or destroyed 13 segments of a 12-mile stretch. No one was injured.

State officials estimated more than 500 million tons of debris cascaded down the mountainsides. The slides were blamed on snowmelt and heavy rain, and water is still flowing across the highway in spots. The route between Red Lodge and Yellowstone National Park, via Cooke City, is expected to remain closed through mid-October.

State Department of Transportation officials said they hope to award a bid for rebuilding the damaged portions of the highway this month.

The highway winds over 10,940-foot Beartooth Pass, eventually reaching Yellowstone’s northeast entrance. The Wyoming side of the road remains open to traffic and the park’s northeast entrance is still open.

The closure is a major concern for Red Lodge, which depends on business from tourists who use the highway. Officials have touted as an alternative the longer Chief Joseph Scenic Highway, saying that drive time to Yellowstone is similar to that of the Beartooth Highway.

Re: Landslides Block Yellowstone Highway
dreamt i was on a national park tour
and as we were trying to get out,
the lines backed up way beyond anyone
getting out

i made my way to the front of the line,
and noticed that there were two doors...
one was open, letting the people out,
one that was closed

the people were trying to get out of one door
i pulled the left door open
it was nailed shut with 3 wimpy picture hanging nails
and almost sealed shut with swimming pool blue paint

i opened the door, everyone got out
and we all ended up in this holding area?
a check in point of some sort

people had carried with them an article like a slim shoe box/twice the heighth, carried by a shoulder strap, beige/taupe in colour

i was sitting alone, content that i had been able to get the bottleneck cleared
unobtrusively, quietly

a couple about 10 yrs older than me "tattled" on me/jealous of me
the woman asked a question of the matriarch of the national park, that put me on the spot and required a truthful answer

matriarch - a very old woman, 75 or 80, missing teeth/brown teeth)

10 yrs older woman pointed out that i had broken a law, done something bad by opening that door

at first, i felt a pang of guilt, not going by some rule or regulation,

but then i said,
i was right

... that that door had been closed mistakenly during
renovations, and i was right opening that door

the people that had been bottle necked, agreed with me
saying that a thousand people could have died from the forest fires

First of all, this dream resonates with me because in the dream I am saying I am right, and the people were agreeing with me.
This is the first time I have dreamt I was "right"

I´ve had occasion to say my dream was right after something bad has happened.

This time, maybe I can help to avert something.

The park felt like Yellowstone.

Forest Fires

a thousand lives can be saved

The blue door
blue way
blue passage
blue pass

blue pertains

This area has been closed off.
There is some sort of deception involved with its closure. (bad teeth)
It was closed for renovation/conservation and never reopened.
Closed for 75/80 years or closed in 75-80
There is some sort of historical/matriarchal reference to it.
Private land borders it, that is why the couple was displeased that the "door" was opened to tourists.
