So? They are an over-charging piece of shit store. Movie Gallery in my area is also going out of business because they charge fucking $6 a rental and aweful late fees.

Should I check out a ton of videos and "forget" to return them?

i remember a few years ago for a few months when they charged a new release DVD rental for over 12$ Canadian!!...they can get fucked for all i care...

with movie rentals directly from television providers, and Netflix, this is no surprise, and only took this long because some people are too dumb to take advantage of services they don't understand.

It doesn't look that bad...

This is actually a positive sign for streaming video content. I think one of the major obstacles was video chains like Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. This probably means Netflix will go to more of a streaming content. That is fine with me, I would rather stream all my movies.

Their stock went to zero many months ago.

I for one am totally going to miss it. I enjoy physically walking through a store and looking at the movies. Many, many times I came out with movies I didn't even know were out there, just by browsing through the store, and was pleasantly surprised. Staff was always really nice and could make knowledgable recommendations.

I guess I'm old-fashioned.

In my area, two Hollywood Video stores went out of business about a month ago and there's only one Blockbuster left. The next nearest Blockbuster is 40 miles away.

The only DVD rental place I know of is a Mom&Pop store about six miles away and they'll probably go out of business too.

With competition from the internet, Netflix and Red Box kiosks and DVD's being $5 at the local box stores(Sam's Club, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Target, Best Buy, Meijer) and grocery stores(Kroger, Dollar General, Family Dollar, Spartan, IGA), no wonder they went out of business.

If you want a laugh, compare Netflix for mail order movies against the same product blockbuster offers.

One would have to be an idiot to sign up with blockbuster.

And as for their stand alone stores, there is still 1 left in my area. The rest are shuttered. Remember the ego blockbuster had 15 years ago when they'd pickpocket you for having a movie out for an extra day?

Apparently they failed to buy off enough congressmen and women.
Had they done that, their crap customer service would have earned them taxpayer bailouts, like it has the mega banks.

I won't miss them a bit.

i'm with you, AC...who gives a rat's ass about b/b anyway? where i live, they closed roger's video with b/b right behind them. the only one we have left is a local store which carries rockin' videos, both new and some great classics. when we went there last night, we rented 3 movies, 2 of them were new releases and 1 a 7 nighter (all of them blueray) - we paid $12 bucks...thought that was pretty cheap entertainment for a fri. night.

so yeah, still can't understand why this would be breaking.

Someone should tell that to the dinosaurs at the RIAA and MPAA who've been shaking down the web with copyright lawsuits.

Good. I find such amazing original films online anyway (not talking about big known ones as well). I donate to the filmmakers when I can.
