Anonymous Coward 09/02/2010 06:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Its the same with Gmail now too. Quoting: Phoenix 2012No cell phone no e-mail account. Welcome to the NWO. Are you serious Phoenix? I don't believe that... Gonna make a g-mail addy and see. Made email... [email protected] No phone number needed. But I notice they have a new Google "Call Phone" thing now. How does this work? Quoting: gmailYou can now place calls to landline and mobile phones from within Gmail. Just dial any phone number and you’ll be connected. Learn more. Rates Calls to the U.S. and Canada are free in 2010. International calls are billed at our insanely low rates. Emergency Calls By clicking accept, you understand and agree that Google Voice is an enhanced call management application and that Google Voice is not capable of placing and receiving emergency service calls. Read the complete Terms of Service. Yay. Everybody call your friends and family so Gmail can listen to your conversations. |

If you don't have a phone their only other option is scanning a GOVERNMENT ISSUED ID. Sorry, not everyone has a drivers licence or a passport. This is getting ridiculous! |

Welcome to the NWO. Incorrect - Gmail is offering up the cell phone option in order to increase account protection. It is NOT mandatory. From Gmail's Security section: We all may forget our passwords at some point, so we strongly encourage that you update your account recovery options. To update these options, sign in to your Google Account by going to [link to www.google.com (secure)] and click Change password recovery options. * Recovery email address: We can use your recovery email address to communicate with you if you lose access to your account. Learn more. * SMS: We can send you a recovery code to your mobile phone number, which you can use to reset your password. Learn more. * Secret question: This option is only available if you can't use the above recovery options and only if haven't tried to sign in during the past 24 hours. An ideal answer to your security question is easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess. The bold section is why they ask for the phone number. Google voice users - you should not use this number for the recovery. If your email account is compromised, so is your google voice. Watch for more changes/options in the near future. Copernica User ID: 1120401 United States 11/15/2010 03:02 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | for the same reason my gmail accounts keep asking me to validate my hotmail account Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1051300geesh ! and to give another account where I can be reached in case of my losing my password and to combine all my social networks into ONE system I dont DO social networks dont want to make them get lazy :) the PTB global computer wants us to co-operate in tying every possible ID into one chart so we can be watched even faster and closer L A Z Y ! . Gmail wants you to validate your alternate account just for that reason. Many people set up their email and forget they need to keep that alternate account active. Their account gets compromised, they forget their password, etc and it does no good to send recovery info to a non-valid email. Which is why they're trying to tie accounts in to cell phone numbers - extra security and no worrying about 2nd email accounts. Gmail does have the social network thing called "Buzz" - which you can turn off by going to settings. Gmail also means you have a Google Account and that's linked in to all their products. So if someone gets into your email - they get into it ALL! Now Facebook - that's an entirely other ugly monster and I wouldn't give them jacksquat except one email....and I'm seriously considering deleting my account completely. God Bless President TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1087585Facebook is overrated. I have an account, but don't use it. They don't have my real name, my real address and they sure as hell aren't getting my cell phone number. They'll just put it up for sale to the highest bidder like all the other data they've been collecting over the years. Same goes for GMAIL. |

If you get the request, people have had luck exiting out and signing up again and they don't get the request again. And you have to love the part where they say if you don't have a phone, use a friends. LOL God Bless President TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! |

Carnt think of a best case sinarerio, sound to far feached lol. |
