I have long hair in my 40s and get complements on it from all age men regularly. I think the majority of men are attracted to women with long hair that is clean and styled.

If you look around, it's mostly older women who have short haircuts. It's not because they look younger, because it doesn't. In fact, it's not attractive at all but I think they do it because they just don't want to care for it when they get older. I rarely see older women with long hair. Long hair makes women look younger, so why aren't older women trying to look younger by letting their hair grow?

I don't agree. There are lots of women with short hair who are good looking. It's just that women with short hair tend to be a little more confident in their own abilities -- they sell themselves to others and not just sex. Long-haired girls tend to think they are only good for sex (aka Hef's girls) and their other talents fall in line after the sex.

If your jowls are sagging toward the back of your neck but the rest of your face is good, the long hair can help hide the sag and make you appear younger than you would otherwise. It can also help camo a neck that is beginning to sag a bit.


This is the same strategy as men who have a bald spot use when they wear baseball caps.

I am 52, and my hair comes down to my hips. I color it, and let it be. I will always have long hair and never cut it short. What makes me look young is not the hair, it is my overall demeanor. The hair is icing on the cake.

Also, Charla Krump, the doyenne of older-looking-women-who-want-to-look-younger, says to keep your hair at shoulder length.

i've always had long hair, right now its the longest its ever been and i've been contemplaiting getting it all cut off... i just don't know if i have the guts for it..

If you're approaching 40, the best look is probably shoulder length hair. Anything past that looks sloppy or like you are an anachronism, IMO.

I think the newer colors out now, like the hot reds, make older women look chic and give the appearance of youthfulness.

IF your old, it makes your facial features stand out, especially if you have a BIG, LONG NOSE !

IF one has great facial features, YES, it makes people 'think' your younger.
