Mesolithic settlement found in Nothern Greece
The greek ministry for culture just released a picture of stone tools which where dated to 7937-7480 BC (Mesolithic period) from the archaeological site of Apsalos, in Aridea, Pella prefecture of northern Greece.

Back in 1997 and in 2000-2001 they had found two settlements and a Bronze Age burial mound,
but now they found a site of a much earlier habitation, at the time when the weather started to become warmer (late pleistocene to holocene) and the people were just starting to settle down in a place. The inhabitants were still hunters and gatherers, they had a few domestic animals with them and they went fishing in the nearby river. This early settlement was safe as it is surrounded by huge mountains.

Along with a lot of stone tools archeologists found some clay construction although there is absence of pottery. What they found is that the habitation of the area was continuous from 8000 bc to the bronze age (3000 bc).

The will continue the excavations and the study of the foundings as they will try to give some answers to the old question of whether the neolithic people were indigenous (progeny of the mesolithic people) or "settlers" who migrated from the Middle East.
