Forest / Wild Fire in Russia on July 27 2019 03:37 AM (UTC).


Wildfires are ravaging the Arctic, with areas of northern Siberia, northern Scandinavia, Alaska and Greenland engulfed in flames. Lightning frequently triggers fires in the region but this year they have been worsened by summer temperatures that are higher than average because of climate change. Plumes of smoke from the fires can be seen from space.

Mark Parrington, a wildfires expert at the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (Cams), described them as "unprecedented". There are hundreds of fires covering mostly uninhabited regions across eastern Russia, northern Scandinavia, Greenland, and Alaska. But smoke is affecting wider surrounding areas, engulfing some places completely. Cities in eastern Russia have noted a significant decrease in air quality since the fires started.

The smoke has reportedly reached Russia's Tyumen region in western Siberia, six time zones away from the fires on the east coast. In June, the fires released an estimated 50 megatonnes of carbon dioxide - the equivalent of Sweden's annual carbon output, according to Cams...

The burning has been sustained by the forest ground, which consists of exposed, thawed, dried peat - a substance with high carbon content. Global satellites are now tracking a swathe of new and ongoing wildfires within the Arctic Circle...

ST was absolutely correct when he said people would freeze up and feel like they don't know what to do what the big Storms came. When we had that major storm last weekend my body was moving so slow when I was trying to do things to protect ourselves , I wanted to move all of the dishes so that I could open the window and slide the screen across to close that but I was just moving very slow coz I just cleaned those dishes and wanted to move them before I opened the window but just opened it anyways because I could not move that fast , like I said I felt like I was slowing down like in slow motion , I could not do things fast , I thought about and almost went to the basement I was preparing to possibly go their as I was looking out the living room window back and forth out the kitchen window looking for a tornado or a tree to fall as I had no idea what kind of storm we were having or how serious it was , thankfully our roof didn't get taken off or house getting damaged by trees or detached garage was ok. Other cities and areas were not so lucky and the damage was much worse but our area was bad to but other areas around Wisconsin entire roofs got torn off I think and barns collapsed etc so it was bad !

It really sounds as if things are ramping up.
