Sheriffs want lists of patients using painkillers | |
Woodsprite User ID: 1093387 Sweden 09/09/2010 08:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So what, are they going to go door to door and check to make sure you have the exact amount of painkillers you're supposed to have? If someone is in massive pain one day and takes double their normal dose, will they get arrested for being one short and therefore a possible drug dealer? Quoting: korpWhat they do right now, is anyone that is on powerful pain meds, are able to be called into the Dr.'s office and forced to bring their pill bottle in for a "pill count" If your number of pills dosen't add up, like if you were in more pain than usual and took a double dose for a day or 2...it would be enough for them to yank your prescription, and you'd be cut off, cold turkey. The Pharmacy also keeps track of the pain killers issued to a person...if their data base says that you are getting a bunch of meds, it's enough for them to 'red flag" you, and turn you in for prescription drug abuse...'Doctor shopping". Even if all the Dr.'s are aware of the other prescriptions , you can still end up in jail. It's already enough....I seen no need for Law Enforcement to have access to records like they are wanting. It really is an invasion of privacy...and I can see them using it as a weapon to harass anyone that legally takes pain meds...like every time you pull out of your driveway, you are pulled over and given a field sobriety test...just because you have the prescription. Too many 'visitors" to your house...enough for them to come knock on your door and force a pill count, or search your house. Nope...this is a very bad idea!!! |

This is a very slippery slope and hopefully this crock of shit does not pass. The extreme problem in NC is caused by "pill mills" in south Florida. I have never seen so many people addicted to narcotics in my life as I have since moving to Fl. Thier are doctor offices in south Fl that literally have lines that wrap around the block. Walk, say your back hurst and get a script for oxicodone. People are driving in from other states because of these guys. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1090897 United States 09/09/2010 09:01 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, those sheriffs can go fuck themselves, because mine...or anyone elses medical condition is none of their business. I'm a cancer survivor who has been on narcotic pain medication for the past 6 years. There is no other alternative for me. I have watched a countless number of friends and family members ruin their lives over the thrill of the high that these drugs provide, but the case in point, is that those people didn't need the medication. When it is doing it's job for those who need it, you don't get the "high" associated with abusing them for pleasure. The real attack here is getting rid of the doctor patient confidentiality and moves us one step closer to pre-crime punishments of the innocent. Maybe the law enforcement should focus more on ridding their state of the fake, half-legal "pill farms" that are providing the country with limitless amounts of prescription medication to people who are not sick and who are using it to make money. Fuk those people, too. This is NO different than the babysitting of the poppy plants in Afghanistan. (Created) problem. (Staged) reaction. (Final) solution. Welcome to the USSA. |

The state sheriff's association pushed the idea Tuesday, saying the move would help them make drug arrests and curb a growing problem of prescription drug abuse. But patient advocates say opening up people's medicine cabinets to law enforcement would deal a devastating blow to privacy rights. Allowing sheriffs' offices and other law enforcement officials to use the state's computerized list would vastly widen the circle of people with access to information on prescriptions written for millions of people. As it stands now, doctors and pharmacists are the main users. Sheriffs made their pitch Tuesday to a legislative health care committee looking for ways to confront prescription drug abuse. Local sheriffs said that more people in their counties die of accidental overdoses than from homicides. "We can better go after those who are abusing the system," said Lee County Sheriff Tracy L. Carter. Read more: [link to www.newsobserver.com] And so the sheriff is now going to be the judge of who is abusing?????????????????????????????????????? And how is said sheriff going to determine that???????????/ And so the sheriff is going to determine who can drive, who can make decisions, who is mentally fit, who is a junkie and just plain doesn't deserve to have their pain relieved based on what???????????????????????? His own personal opinion and bias. This is an outrage!! And how will this sheriff accost said abuser.........on the street, in your home, at your job???????????????? This is so corrupt on so many levels. Gawd knows the sheriff can't stop illegals in Arizona and profile THEM but he can suddenly have the power in NC to invade people's private lives and destroy them. Gawd know though that there won't be a single junkie/abuser found among the collective group of illegals. So....the sheriff can just selectively go after anyone he deems as unfit, drugged up or what???????????/ This country needs a good smack down for the twisted insane laws and rules it is pumping out at will to fit whoever wants to do whatever.
