It could be so many different things. Their are a lot of angry people out there, on both sides. I see nothing good coming of this.
Someone is playing some very powerful game, at the expense of us.

Because it's a set up.

Created enemy for distraction purposes. The government/media divide and conquer. It is what they do.

The muppets that be have always worked on both the exoteric and the esoteric levels. Never accept what is at face value as being all that they are up to. And never underestimate them, they have been at this game for a long time.

So in regard to the media, we should assume "they" can either anticipate our reaction and use it as pretext for action of some kind, or at the very least so they can capture and neutralize opinion and/or attention itself?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 657383

You should consider that they have already done predictive modeling of all the outcomes they can perceive of any action or events that will affect in any way the agendas that they have. Thankfully the universe is rather unpredictable ;).

As his vision slowly cleared, the traveler came to the startling realization that he had been sitting by the side of the road, repeatedly hitting himself in the head with his walking staff. He had in fact been doing this for a quarter of a century.

Shaking his head at his own folly, he dusted himself off, set his gaze upon the road up the mountain and once more set off upon his journey.

I work from the standpoint that the American media is managed by the same people who manage the US govt. If that is the case, and most here would agree, why is this story being played up so much? Its one guy, with maybe 50 followers, and he gets the attention of all the biggees like Petraeus, etc.

Two ideas come to mind. One is that they are trying to stoke the flames of war and conflict. The other is that they are using it as a tension release mechanism so we do not get into some sort of nuclear slugfest disaster.

Anybody reading this with thoughtful opinions on this subject?

OP this is what you do before you stage a "terrorist" attack on your own country. Get people so fired up and distracted about something (this one happens to be hate between Christianity and Islam) and while both sides are at each others throats, attack your target, place blame, and watch the masses call for war and start attacking people of whatever religion is involved.

This is definately meant to distract from something bigger and I think it is funny most are falling for it.
 Quoting: Tols

Its also a bite size morsel most people can get their minds around. You know, clear issues, sort of like a reality TV show.

guess I would go with the theory that it fits many needs, a few listed above would include diversion, cementing in the public's minds that Muslims were behind 9-11, tension release or buildup, etc.

Thanks to all for sharing your thoughts on this.

Re: Anybody wondering why the press is playing up this Koran issue?
My theory: The 9/11 truth movement is growing bigger and bigger.

So TPTB wants to distract us and prevent that the truth movement get too much attention.

Absolutely right... its very subtle... MSM pushes the "I hate violent muslims" rap in the media, while simultaneously making the christian pastor look like an idiot... Doublespeak in the classic Orwellian sense... designed to create division and tension between Christians and Muslims....

Its a distraction from 911 truth... designed to get the sheeple back into their false Muslim vs Christian paradigm..all riled up against each other...

EXPENSIVE wars can thus continue unabated... and banksters can keep making pots of money off the deficits created by the war spending... all the while claiming political correctness with respect to the Pastor's "racism... "

This is also designed to incite dumb Muslims to start attacking Christians... so there will be an excuse to bomb Iran later on...

Everyone is being played...

Its quite brilliant, actually.. too bad that dumb Christians, Muslims and Jews are such suckers for this type of provocation...

I am a Christian, and I am not being suckered into this garbage.

Military burns unsolicited Bibles sent to Afghanistan

(CNN) -- Military personnel threw away, and ultimately burned, confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two most common Afghan languages amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

Troops at posts in war zones are required to burn their trash, Wright said.

The Bibles were written in the languages Pashto and Dari.

Totally agree OP.
People in the middle east burn American flags and US presidents in effigy frequently. Even liberals wackos here in our own country do that and no one is ever concerned about any kind of retaliation. Presidential friend Bill Ayers even posed for a picture of himself standing on an American flag that many red blooded Americans found highly offensive but no violence came of that either. With those sorts of insults there is the occasional national coverage but it only lasts a day or so and people go on with their lives. Christian churches even get burned down to the ground and little publicity is given outside it's local area and certainly no violence.

But one small town Christian preacher and his church decide to burn their own copies of the Koran without hurting a soul and suddenly that is international news that even our commanding general in another country needs to comment on? Suddenly we are told that is we burn an evil book in protest that their will be violent possibly deadly retaliation? That says two things. The media is hugely biased (well duh) and way too many Muslims are violently dangerous.
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787
