Earthquake in Sofia / Bulgaria
The 3.5 earthquake that shook Sofia on Friday has caused the falling of four chimneys in the Bulgarian capital. National security teams are checking for other damages on the territory of Sofia. The phone traffic has also been interrupted as a result of the rattling. On Friday at 10:11 an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 on the Richter scale rattled the Bulgarian capital. The epicenter has been in Sofia, at the 8th km of the "Tsarigradsko Shosse" Boulevard towards the Sofia Airport. The director of the National Geophysics Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Nikolay Miloshev, has explained that earthquakes below 4.5 on the Richter scale are considered weak and they usually do not cause material damages.

Probably both. Old buildings which have not been reconstructed fall easily

A 3.5 cause chimneys to fall? Hahaha don't they know you need to use mortar with bricks?
Poor people do poor people things, and rich people do rich people things.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.

What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.

The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is the beginning of the end of any nation.

You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!

when you rob Paul to give to Peter ... ... ... you will always get Peters support!

The capital Sofia IS an active seismological area. Better to have more not so strong that one big one.

By the way, the whole region is slightly rocking lately.

In BG they build with bricks (as in EU) not with wooden sticks like in the US. That's why chimneys are falling :))

Re: Earthquake in Sofia / Bulgaria
a "LOL website" :D
However, i feared this quake particulary because here's a "small -> bigger" gradation. I don't remember such sequence of events around Sofia lately. It has always been bigger one, then a smaller (aftershocks), then follows an year of calm period. Now here is a smaller one, then slightly bigger -> the opposite :O

We'll see what will happen. I hope the buildings hold if a big one strike. Most of the constructions here, which are built after 1980 are engeneered to withstand up to magnitute 8th. However stupid uneducated people that you can frequently encounter here, do make reconstructions of their apartments, braking walls in huge apartment houses and what you get is original building's quake resistance heavily undermined, not mentioning the old houses in the city center build many decades ago.
